In my eye the conditional 3rd rounder for extending him turned out to be a poison pill. If there was no cost to re sign him I think they may have given him another year or at least looked at a 1A/1B scenario. But to take the risk and give up another pick, just too high of a cost.

Best of luck to Brian Elliott!
i was definitely hoping he 'was the guy' for us... and for a while it totally looked like he turned the corner on that post Christmas run and looked like the goalie we were all hoping he would be...
sadly, that showing versus Anaheim basically made it impossible for him to return... one bad game you can live with, but really it was 3 (well 2.25 bad games)... but those games he looked like he didn't even belong in the league...
optics would have made it very tough for the organization to bring him back...

I was sad when he crapped the bed in the first round. What about me?

Hope he rebounds well from not controlling rebounds well.

A decent fella who seemed to really like Calgary. He put in one hell of a run to get us back into playoff contention and that should be given more credit than it has to date.

Nightmare scenario: Elliott plays lights out this season wherever he goes and eliminates the Flames from the playoffs...

Were it not for that conditional third I think there's a good chance he would have remained a Flame notwithstanding the playoffs.
Pretty crazy to think in his one and only season with the Flames he set the team's all-time goalie win streak record.
It's a tough business sometimes.
Thank you Moose.

You mean the quintessential Calgary Flames scenario which is almost sure to happen.

With Elliott in the net I am pretty sure that this won't happen.

I'm pretty sure that change coincided with his big turnaround and win streak, so there was really no saving the red stuff.

I actually think the odds are good that Elliott has a great season. But what team could he go to that would play Calgary? All western PO teams have goalies. He could play for Vancouver or Arizona or Vegas, but who cares?

Not far fetched at all. Elliott stood on his head many times when the Blues owned the Flames for a few years. I just hope Mike Smith can continue his domination of the Oilers in a Flames jersey.

I almost feel his run was overrated. He played well when the entire team was playing well unlike Johnson who was stealing games when the team played poorly.
Both goalies were decent 1B options. They both played well in stretches and the fact they were not Hiller bad resulted in the Flames making the playoffs.
Elliott's start and finish to the season were poor and it is best that both parties move on which clearly has happened.

Elliott to Philadelphia the most likely scenario? Maybe Winnipeg?

He set a fricken record. Held by Calgary's second best all time goalie, playing for Calgary's best all time team.

You know, the really crappy part about all of this is that this could have gone so much differently.
Every opportunity was there, all he had to do was play well.
Moose seemed like such a genuine person and a great teammate but he just could not get his game together.
I'm sad to see Elliott the person and teammate leave but ecstatic that Elliott the infuriating goaltender leave.

Man, I feel like Smith is going to disappoint you guys. Don't get me wrong, I really hope not.
Can't wait for this forum to blow up about him staying in his net and quit playing with the puck.

The team also set a record and at the end of the day were still a wildcard team that was swept in the first round. Elliott did not steal games during that run. He played very well during that stretch but so did the whole group
