Pretty weird, in light of them giving one to Alex De Minaur, another 18 year old who's ranked like 180 or something, but I guess that's required by the agreement they have with the Aussie Open.
Two of the guys who got wild cards are ranked 700 or lower (one is 917th), and none of them are ranked ahead of Shapovalov.
Seems like a missed opportunity to capitalize on a bit of hype.

yeah the bottom 5 on that list are set so really they were only 3 open spots and they chose 3 americans.
more importantly, Maria Sharapova got a wildcard. The US Open is such a cash cow.

So it appears that Milos has also withdrawn from Cincy. This is Rafa's tournament to lose, lets hope he can get past Muller in Rd.3 and build some confidence going into the US Open, and a nice healthy lead in the race to #1

Francoise dropped the first set of her opening match to Linette in Cincinnati, but looks to be forcing a third.

Looks like Brayden Schnur was the lone Canadian to advance at the Odlum Brown Vancouver Open yesterday.

Kei Nishikori is out for the rest of the season with a torn tendon in his wrist.
Nishikori heard a "pop" in his wrist while hitting a serve during a practice session this week at the Western & Southern Open hard-court tournament in Mason, Ohio. Nishikirow withdrew from that event on Monday.

We need a Kei Nishikori filter that automatically changes his name to "that guy".

I didn't want to give the impression that I was making light of a potentially serious situation and best wishes to Kei for a speedy and full recovery.

Nah - would never think that.
I think the group of tennis fans here would never wish ill or injury on any player

Zverev upset today by 19 y.o Tiafoe. Not surprising as he just played in the Rogers Cup final and had previously won Washington. Still a major threat to win at the US Open

Wasn't too happy with how Nadal started yesterday, but as the match went on he got his backhand going and won. Glad to see he was more aggressive in this match as opposed to the Shap match where he waited for Shap to make a mistake which he never made. Rafa has a good chance to win his first non-clay title since 2014 and break the tie with Djokovic for most ATP1000 titles ever. Tough match today I'm hoping he can pull it off Vamanos

So Nadal is just starting his match and then has to play again if he wins at 7:00pm today against most likely Kyrios who's match is just about to end. Ya that makes sense, tough to win now that's too much to ask even for Rafa.

this is a bit of danger time, having too much punishing hard court play just over a week from the USO start is a risk. dudes are dropping like flies right now, and it's fine line between taking advantage of that, or joining them on the sidelines.

Rafa makes short work of Ramos-Vinolas after a tough first set to set up a match with Kyrgios tonight.

Going to be tough for Rafa going up against the much younger Kyrgios and having less rest as well.
