There seems to be a bit of a theme here that the only way a player develops is during the games? All that training and video mustn't do anything, huh? There were comments in here suggesting that he needs PP time so he can take his time and get comfortable making plays. I could have sworn that's exactly what practice was for.

If he goes down, he works with different coaches. Although they are claiming that they are trying to keep consistent systems in the AHL/NHL, he may have a harder time than working with the NHL coach because they may be asking him to work on slightly different things.

Watching a game as a player and being able to understand it on a higher level, especially after being told by the coach what to look for is much more likely to help reinforce areas of the game that need improvement. Practice + Video Review and Workouts have a lot more to do with "improvement" rather than the trial by fire approach everyone here keeps preaching.

Unfortunately I think the Wild are running pretty hot right now and come away 4-3 in a well-fought game.

I don't mind seeing Baertschi sit out another one. We are supposed to be re-building, and we all know how well the Edmonton approach of throwing rookies on the ice and letting them do whatever the hell they want works out. I'd rather see them bench Baertschi off/on this year to help mould him into an all-around better player in the future.

If you want Baertschi to be a better NHL player, I don't think sending him to the AHL does that. Say he goes down and runs over everyone in 10 games and scores 15 goals and pockets 20 assists. Sure it was a confidence boost, but it didn't help him become a well-rounded player.

McGrattan and Jackman are just plugs. Their stats reflect it, both have +/- of 0. They neither provide offence, nor (usually) cost the team. I'd prefer have McG/Jacks step into the lineup to allow the Baetschi/Monahan/Backlund's of the team sit out and get a new perspective, and then slip back in the next game. This isn't a matter of McG/Jacks being better than those players, but a long-term development plan. As the young guys get better and more consistent you'll see these plugs shipped off.

Zero problem with Sven watching. I think Backlund should be playing with Monahan and Hudler, as he is significantly better than Sven on the walls & defensive zone, and completely wasted as a 4th line center.

A reminder that this game will be on the secondary Sportsnet Flames channel (302 HD, 326 SD) since the Oilers are on Sportsnet West. Once the Oilers game ends, then the Flames will be on the West channel at approximately 2000h.

What process exactly? A process that only relates to Sven only? You have other forwards who make mistakes or look lazy yet they are never held accountable (so far).

It looks like Hartley is coaching Sven shift by shift...kids going to be too focused on not making mistakes then playing where his skills lie.

End of the story...as long as Sven is on the ice for more goals for then against...who cares. Let the kid wheel and deal.
You know the old saying, "you can't a teach an old dog new tricks".

Well, at this stage in his career, Glencross and the other veterans aren't going to just develop consistency. There's still hope for Sven.

Hopefully, he works through all this adversity and becomes a complete player. Teach them the right way when they are young, don't wait till they develop the bad habits and can't get it out of their game.

I wonder if Sportsnet Flames will have more than just audio this time? That last game was a debacle on Shaw. Not sure if it was on anywhere else, but it was just audio on the SNF channel.

Swiss bear is happy for Reto. Swiss bear is sad for Sven. Overall, Swiss bear is neutral.

That's what they should list for Shaw. Instead it says:

Sportsnet One Pre-Game. HD, Live. A preview of upcoming hockey action.

Not sure if this is Shaw's guide not reflecting things, Shaw's decision to run the last half of the Face Off With The Flood special before the game starts, or Sportsnet's. The guide seems accurate for every other channel though.

The games on SN-W seem to have a Sports Central pre-game panel bla bla bla. If it's on the guide for the SN-Flames channel, I would expect the same...except, of course, that it's Sportsnet and it's a minor miracle we get to see any of the games.

I think the Flames put together another solid effort and win 2-1.

Cammalleri and Wideman score.

Go Flames Go!
