Finally. Now all the "ROR as a Flame" talk can be put to rest.

Thought for sure this would go to arbitration. Maybe next time, 2 years from now.
EDIT: Oh, UFA after this. Well there you go.

The Flames didn't want to trade for him until he was under contract. ROR to the Flames is still alive!

Note the bold. He's as good as gone, IMO, after all the contract squabbles. Wouldn't be surprised if he was traded before that contract expires.

Lol, I wish. The number of people on this forum completely unable to let the past go, plus the fact that O'Reilly will obviously be traded before this contract expires means that topic isn't going away at all. It's just going to be muted for about a year.

Yeah I was going to say the fact that they got him to sign a two year deal makes him a much more attractive trade target. As for the Flames I don't see the point in trading for him at this stage of their rebuild as he's not going to help get the Flames in the playoffs over the next two years and he would be more valuable to the team when they are starting to turn the corner which will likely be after this contract expires.

Does that contract get ROR to UFA?

As rare as sign and trade transactions are, given the history of the two parties involved, I can see ROR being traded sooner rather than later.

I'm questioning the accuracy of the statement. I thought the Avs would still have his rights and he would have to sign for three years to get to UFA status.

27 or 7 seasons.
He will have played 7 seasons after the second year of that contract.

O'Reilly entered the league as an 18 year old. Players are eligible for UFA status after 7 years or by the age of 27 (whatever happens first). So in this case, he is eligible to be a UFA at 25.

He probably still gets traded before the season starts IMO.

In two years we'll have Monahan, Bennett and McDavid..... No need for O'Reilly.

That seems less likely to me given the fact that they were able to actually negotiate a deal. I think they will live with each other for this year. Next year's draft is when it will really ramp up, and will likely become an ongoing storyline/distraction from that point until he is dealt.

Maybe I missed something, but what's O'Reilly's beef with playing in Colorado? Why all the holding out? I mean, I realize the team was a mess and basically tanking it a while back but seems like a fairly desirable place to play with an up and coming young talented team, no?
