Forever a flame is perfect jor Joe, but there's no way in hell should he ever get his jersey retired. I also wonder if this has something to do with a vacant gm position.

"You can't wear this number because someone who we think is cool wore that number..."
Give me a break. It's a ####ing number. Comes across as childish to me.
I realize I'm in the minority (at least, in North America) I know it's somewhat of a tradition, but it's not one I care for.
I actually think the FaF is more of a normal honouring and am glad they don't retire numbers.

If we are talking being best in the league in their role, I think #19 should get consideration as well.
at least consideration after they do #12, #12, #14, #7, #20 as well.

I agree 100% with this guy. Seeing them all mixed looks super lame.

The board of governors did, flames were part of it.

There are only four numbers currently retired in Calgary (Officially or in practice) - 9, 12, 14, 30. The only real omission at this point is 2. I would say four or five in 35 years is reasonable.

If people are going to get all fired up and high and almighty about a player being 100% pure and untarnished to be recognized in any way, shape, or form, then they better also remember that #2 was also involved in a controversy that involved a court case in Calgary.
As far as I am concerned, I think the Flames should do as Montreal does and if they do so, Lanny and Mikey should be treated in the same fashion. If or when a new Flames arena gets built would be a good time to make such a move. Treat all the same.
In the meantime, I see nothing wrong with honoring former Flames that contributed a lot to the Flames organization.
I also don't expect those players honored to be perfect. That is something that none of us can promise...hockey is no different. We all have our lumps.

Retire: 9,12,30,34,99
Forever a Flame: 2,7,10,12,14,14,19,20,25
And when the time is right do something VERY special for Peter Maher.

While the timing doesn't hurt (such as it is) in the quest to have Nieuwendyk become the GM, Joe Who was one of the names most often mentioned when this program was created. It does act as a nice vehicle to try and encourage he and his family to return to the city though.

Do they have a good insurance policy? This could be an ideal solution for a new arena.

Their insurance policy required them to basically rebuild everything to the same standard over the summer.

Peter Maher should somehow be recognized. He has been with this team since the beginning.

I thought of this. It won't work. Dome is mostly metal and concrete!

I am sure the Flames will do so once Peter retires.
