Next year we should just say that Hudler is a defenseman and he'll be the highest scoring defender and a lock for the Norris!
This award is a joke.

Offensivve D-Men are very underrated. Karlson is fantastic. Doughty is the one who does not belong.
Nashville likely had two strong candidates who cancelled each other out.

How on earth are people voting for Subban? He shouldn't even be one of the three finalist.

Doughty is easily the best overall defenseman of the group but his team did miss the playoffs but that shouldn't take away from the fact that he had a great season.

Man. I I have a tough time looking at that list missing Suter, Weber and Gio. I would take any of those three over the above.
Doughty, just because he should have one at least already, even though it wasn't his best season.

Subban, even though it pains me to say so. Great both offensively and defensively, and a very good leader.
Doughty was a stalwart defenseman who had to play an unreal amount of minutes, and almost willed that team into the playoffs. However, they fell short, and his point totals are significantly lower than the other two.
Karlsson is the best offensive d-man in the league, and while he isn't a detriment to his team defensively, he isn't the guy that I want on the ice in the last couple of minutes in a game.
*Had Gio stayed healthy he would have easily won this award this year.

Karlsson was fantastic offensively and horrible defensively. If the Trophy is for highest scoring defender that's one thing but for overall defenseman, Karlsson and Suban shouldn't be on the list and Doughty didn't have that great of a year.
Nashville likely had two strong candidates who cancelled each other out.

This makes absolutely no sense at all, must be leaf logic.

If the voting was completed by the GM who actually know about how to build winning teams, Doughty would probably win.
Unfortunately, much of the voting is done by the media in the east, so Karlsson will probably win. The media tends to care more about stats than the general managers and presidents.
Does anyone else feel like Weber should have won last year? Nashville probably has it tougher than anyone when it comes to awards.

There should be a vote category for "none of the above".

Karlsson will win, but I think it should be either Doughty or Subban.
Sucks that this is likely the second year in a row Giordano missed out because of injury.

Doughty is the best defenceman among those guys. But that's over his career, not this season.
The other two are just so flawed, I can't decide. I voted Karlsson because I think he will win.
I'd have voted Josi over these guys this year. Hell, I'd vote Gio with his 3/4 season over the others.

It's going to Karlsson, continuing the tradition of going to the highest scoring Dman, and not the best overall Dman.

Karlsson had 74 points in 2013-14 and wasn't even a finalist. Keith won the award with 61 points.

Except for last year of course. And 2009-12.
Since 2000 it's been the highest point getter 5 times, so 1/3 of the time.

Offense is now driven from the defensive position, and Karlsson drives play like no other D in the league.
Giordano is the only reasonable comparable - he drives play in the same kind of way, and would have won if healthy because he is far superior defensively.
Karlsson by a wide margin.

I love watching Karlsson. Such a unique player and incredibly valuable player that has no real comparable. He jumps up so much and is better in the offensive zone than the forwards. He's also better in the defensive zone than any other defenseman. The trouble is, you can't be in both places at once so he has to rely on the forwards to pick up the back check. He's gotta be the smoothest skater in the league too. Never looks like he's in trouble

I'd give it to Karlsson, he was one of reasons why the Senators made the playoffs.
If it weren't for Giordano going down, he would have won it without question.
