Mason Raymond
I heard a rumour that Mason Raymond was interested in coming to Calgary but the Flames had little interest in him.
Can anyone provide some insight?
On the surface this seems like a "fit", but I do not know what is salary demands would be....perhaps it is the lingering "canuck stench"? ..;-)
Apologies if this is addressed in another thread, Mods, please move it appropriate.

I don't see a fit at all. Who does he push out? Sorry Mason, we are full.

I believe in the Pony Power

On the surface he may be a fit, mainly because of the local connection. In terms of the player attributes, he’s a poor fit based on what has been identified as being priorities for the Flames
- Hockey sense (they want it – he doesn’t have it)
- Play tough (he doesn’t do this)
He’s got speed and that’s about it. And the Flames are actually deep at his position (relatively speaking) so bringing him would probably mean less opportunity for a young player.
The fact he is still out there, says a lot about how he is valued around the league.
I would be OK with bringing him on an uber-bargain deal, but overall there isn’t much of a fit here.

A couple of PTO's is all i expect the flames to do from now until camp. Not sure if Raymond will get one with the flames? Jiri's post pretty much shows why he would not get one with the flames.

Raymond is a decent defensive player with great speed. I actually think that he would do really quite well on a third line of the Flames. He reminds me in a lot of ways of Shean Donovan/Todd Marchant, lots of speed, a really streaky scorer, decent enough in the backend. Could be bumped up to a top 6 position on a weak team but better suited for a third line position who could occasionally score.
The big question mark is how he can bounce back from injuries (pun not intended)

any veteran player who is taking up a spot better be
a) a high quality player that is significantly better than the kids whose job he is taking, or
b) a real leader / mentor type, or
c) someone who is big and physical and will help ensure that the kids aren't abused
Raymond is none of those things - what he brings, we don't need

As much as I dislike the Canucks, Raymond is a good player. Great in his own end, even if he's not a physical player. Speed combined with defensive smarts is never a bad thing if it's at the right price.

You don't win meaningful games with a Mason Raymond, or because of a Mason Raymond.

Green text is the worst thing to happen on Forums in a long time.
No offense to the above posters but green text just isn't funny nor does it add anything to the thread.

nor does it take away, so I'd hardly say it's the worst thing. Harping on every little insignificant thing posters do is much much worse imo
