wranglers Heat sign Nick Tuzzolino

The Heat have signed defensive defenseman Nick Tuzzolino.

I liked him last year. He was a steady player who could join in the rush occasionally. He was the captain of his ECHL team, so he brings a bit of much needed leadership to a young 2012/13 Heat team.

Big fella at 6'5" 225lbs.

Him and Breen would make for a very imposing D pairing.

Thought Tuzzolino looked solid with the Heat in the two games I saw in Charlotte last season. He keeps his game simple and is a good bottom-pairing dman.

Tuzzolino provides depth for the Heat and is insurance in case Carson or Wilson stick with Calgary or is claimed off waivers.

Depth chart based off the building-blocks thread:
Wilson
Carson
Piskula
Breen
Lamb
Tuzzolino
Martin
McElvie

Heat have signed another veteran d-man in Joe Callahan.

With all these defensemen on SPCs I hope this doesn't mean less playing time for young d-men like Martin.

I wonder if it means the Flames are planning on dealing a veteran depth d-man with an NHL contract?

Wilson, Carson, Piskula really don't have much of chance at making the big club IMO, and Wilson and Carson are on one way NHL contracts.

Maybe deal one of them for a pick or something, open up a contract spot, give the player a chance in another org to make the NHL, and replace him with a decent veteran d-man on an AHL deal?

You might be right. I just hope it's not Wilson. He's the lifeblood of the offense even though he's a defenseman. He's makes so many things happen in the offensive zone.

I just don't know how much GMs want Carson and/or Piskula.

I think Carson will be heading to Europe

I could see Carson being traded for "Future Considerations" in the same manner the Flames acquired Keith Seabrook.

I was thinking if he can be traded it would be for another AHL/NHL tweener like the Mikkelson deal last year.
