I would also be up for some kind of CP Minecraft dealie. Ultra Hardcore, Cluster Chunk, Race for the Wool, whatever.
I did a 4v4 Race for the Wool game at a LAN party I hosted in November, but it was a terrible map choice because we didn't know what colors we were looking for because the victory monument was HIDDEN, and the map used assorted other colors of wool for various decorative features!! Also... only 3 of the 8 of us had ever played Minecraft.
I'd be down for an adventure map as well. I have only played single player so far and wouldn't mind playing with other people.

But I saw the potential!
Cool. I guess the challenge will be finding a place to play. Unless Rathji is also interested in playing I don't want to assume we can use his server.
I don't like the idea of spending $$$ to rent space somewhere. Since we're not looking at having a persistant world I'd be willing to host on my home PC. Based on this page it looks easy enough.
I have a Core i5 CPU with 16GB ram, and my bandwidth is 50mbps down, and I think 3 mbps up.
^^the other thing, Rathji, is for shorter games like Cluster Chunk we'd want to reset the map after the first round. If you're not playing it would be difficult for you to accomodate us.
Out of curiousity, what hardware are you using and what sort of bandwidth do you have?
I am running a castoff Hp g5. 8gb ram 2gb dedicated to the Mc server. Xeon cpu, don't recall the speed offhand, something in the 2.4 - 2.8 range I am guessing
Shaw broadband 50 so 3mbps up is the effective pipe.

I finished the outside of my full-scale replica of the Calgary Tower on the SMP server I play on with my friends. I thought you guys might appreciate it.
Still doing the LP thing. Latest episode is 28, where I finish that same exterior work.

I run a vanilla survival server with a handful of players. Normal difficulty and no pvp unless agreed. It's nothing too special but I've built 2 cool mob (skeleton) grinders in my mine for collecting items and the other for XP. Everyone is respectful. No griefing or anything silly like that.
If anyone wants to join, PM me and I'll shoot you the IP. All I ask is that you build a fair distance from the other player's homes so our mines don't run into each other. Not a huge deal though if they do. Just turn around and mine the other way.
My spare time for running this type of thing is pretty limited right now, but I could do it with some notice. I have not kept the server up to date with the current version, nor do I know if the UHC plugin support is available.
If someone was interested in figuring that out, or even taking on the whole task, I could discuss it with you.

I always think they should do a ultra hardcore series that deals with a mole in their team. Say each team has 4 members, but 1 member is actively trying to sabotage them. they have to guess who it is, while at the same time building up their defenses to raid other players, or accomplish a mission.
I guess you just have to be very good at the sabotage. Possibly taking items out of the chest and discarding them. or finding gold and not letting others know, but making every effort to destroy the gold or use it on yourself.
Would you need to be very creative. Even setting up some kind of trap for fall damage, minor things like that.
That's an awesome idea. You can't watch your teammates at all times. Any time someone accidentally damaged a teammate they'd be suspected of being the mole. The ultimate strategy for the moles would be to trick his team into killing the wrong teammate for being the mole. It would work even with just 2 teams of 4. We should do this and become internet famous.
