Default Video Cards

I'm looking into getting a video card, nothing too crazy I just want to be able to run some newer games with medium graphic settings. I have a amd duo core 4000+ processor and 2 gigs of ram. It's been so long since I've used my PC for games and I am not really up on video cards as of late. Any help or recommendations you can give me are greatly appreciated.

Best bet is to pick the card that falls within your budget.

With that processor I would suspect that it would hold you back on most of the newer games out there.

What games are you looking to play? You need more ram. At least boost your machine to 4 gigs. I was looking at these two cards yesterday which seemed pretty decent.

Asus HD 7770 2GB

Asus HD 7850 2GB

The 7850 has some pretty good reviews and isn't a ton of money. Keep in mind these cards are huge so you need the space to physically fit them in your case.

Yeah, I've been worried about the ram but my board only takes 2 gigs sadly, so I'm out of luck unless i get a new mobo.

I've been wanting to play the horror games out like amnesia and some of the free ones, anna, slender and any other horror game.

I mean right now with my onboard video even minecraft is laggy.

What's your processor speed? Without knowing your current card it looks like you meet the minimum requirements for Amnesia. If you can run Half-Life 2 you can run Slender Source. Slender doesn't look too graphically intensive either and it's free to download so you could just try it and see if it runs on your system. You could run a game like Dead Space on your system as well but probably not on high settings. Your motherboard is what will hold you back in most cases.

Processor is 2.11, it's 64bit as well. As for slender it is beyond choppy, I have tried it but I am running 750mhz onboard graphics.

It is possible that because I was running the windows 8 preview there could have been some issues, ill test it again now that i've switched back to 7.

Someone who knows more can correct me but you could probably grab a card for under $100. I probably wouldn't spend any more than that.

Maybe look at the GeForce GT 520

Or perhaps the HD 6450

I just got the Sapphire Radeon 7850 2GB and compared to some other cards it's not that big physically. Runs beautifully so far.
