Default 2017 MLS Season

Looking good, so far.

I have feeling that Fanendo Adi is going to make himself a lot of money this spring, before shipping off this summer.

Lots of new young Canadians in the league this year if you enjoy watching those sorts of players, like I do.

Most notable is 16 year old Alphonso Davies in Vancouver, who was the best player by a big margin in the CONCACAF Chmpions League QF against New York Red Bulls. Another bigger name is 17 year old Ballou Tabla in Montreal, although it's rumoured that he wants to play internationally for the Ivory Coast.

A few other new names that are exciting but won't have as big of an impact are Raheem Edwards in Toronto and Shamit Shome and Louis Beland-Goyette in Montreal. There are also a few new faces on American clubs in Maxim Tissot (DC United), Tyler Pasher (Sporting KC), Brian Wright (NE Revolution), Kwame Awuah (NYC FC) and Adonijah Reid (FC Dallas).

And then there's the usual suspects in Larin, Akindele, Osorio and Teibert.

I laughed, although only out of total disbelief. What a con job. I hope he gets suspended for that.

Cyle Larin busted for a DUI. Blew a .182, video shows him driving on the wrong side of the road. Might not be available for Gold Cup.

Anybody watching this season? TFC are the class of the league, and the Whitecaps have quietly climbed the table and are currently 4 points clear in first place. Pretty cool to see Canadian teams on top both divisions.

Every time I watch the Whitecaps, I'm amazed they aren't at the bottom of the table. Take last night's game. Completely outclassed in every aspect of the game, yet they get a goal against the run of plan, bunker down and win. A couple of fantastic saves by Marinovic, a couple posts on Sporting KC chances and 7-8 minutes of time wasting saved them.

TFC on the other hand, are arguably the best MLS side I've ever seen. Save for the games last week, they have been dominant all year. Even when rotating the squad, guys like Cheyrou and Ricketts and Chapman step up big time. I think they are in tough if they go up against Atlanta in the playoffs, but that will be a damn good series.

The Impact will likely see a lot of change this offseason, but if it's not Braz or de Santis leaving, expect more of the same. Piatti, Piette and Jackson-Hamel are good pieces. Everyone else, meh.

Looking likely now, and while it should be fun to watch, not a comfortable matchup at all as a TFC fan.

TFC also just completed the all time best MLS regular season with only 5 losses the entire season. It doesn't mean much in a playoff league if you don't take home the trophy at the end of the year.

Part of me wants to see MLS cup in a Toronto blizzard in December.

In my eyes, MLS Cup will either be won by Toronto or Atlanta. Toronto has been on an amazing run of form for most of the year, but they've dipped a bit the last few weeks, particularly the loss against Montreal. Atlanta are the best team in MLS . Should these two teams meet in the East final, it will be an amazing series, just like last year's TFC / Impact series.

As for the Whitecaps, I think if they do manage to get by San Jose, it will be a typical Whitecaps game where they are completely outclassed and then get one on a counterattack. The clubs drew in Vancouver a few weeks ago and I thought San Jose were the far better side in that match. They won't beat Seattle in a two legged tie though.

And in Montreal, Biello and his staff are gone. Oyongo and Bernardello as well. Their backline and centre midfield needs a complete revamp; in my mind only Ciman and Piette are worth keeping around. Wonder if there is any truth to the Nesta to Montreal rumour.
