IIRC, there were a couple of Canucks " under observation" for the mumps and it didn't turn out to be that. Hopefully the same story with Ferland. But glad the Flames are taking the better safe than sorry approach, by being cautious.

I'm at the airport reading this news. Now anytime someone coughs my mind assumes they are spreading the mumps
As for Ferland, it's ok. It means Ferland gets a rest for a week or so and will be refreshed heading into the playoffs. He'll be quarantined from the rest of the players.

The vaccine for mumps only gives a 49% to 92% effectiveness for one dose and 66 to 95% effectiveness for 2 doses.
The concept of herd immunity is really what prevents the disease not individual vaccinations. The more people who get the vaccine, the tougher time the virus has spreading to other humans. The fewer, it can spread through those who are not immunized and those where the vaccination is not as effective.

Flames doctors: Ferland, you need to stay home. You might have the mumps.
PugnaciousIntern: Although I'm not a doctor, and I've never met him before, I'm going to say it's most likely not mumps.
Flames doctors: That settles it. You're playing.

Pugnaciousintern is a doctor.

GG said during the press conf. after the game that he is told Ferly is feeling pretty good, so they will wait and see in 24/48 hours. That sounds promising...

He wouldn't be on the plane unless the docs cleared him from the mumps. Otherwise they would take a wait and see and have him join the team in Nashville, if he gets cleared in the next day or two.

Wills on 960 says Ferland wasn't on the plane to Washington.
But that doesn't necessarily mean he can't join the team at some point on this road trip.

Derek Wills on Fan 960 just reiterated that Ferland was not on the team flight to DC. So he will most definitely be out of the lineup for Tues night. Further updates on his status should be forthcoming tomorrow.
