PRE-GAME REPORT: Oilers vs. Flames

An immediate bounce back from a frustrating defeat to the Minnesota Wild on Friday won’t come easy for the Edmonton Oilers, who’ll wrap up back-to-back games at Rogers Place this weekend on Hockey Night in Canada against the Calgary Flames in the Battle of Alberta.

Edmonton will be looking for a quick response on Saturday against their provincial rivals in their third of four meetings this season following their 4-2 loss to Minnesota last night, where they dominated over the final two periods with a 37-13 shot advantage but couldn’t put it together over the full 60 minutes to come up with the victory.

Flames relishing shot at revenge in latest Battle of Alberta vs. Oilers

It’s been a full month since a 3-1 loss on a fluky Sam Gagner goal gave the Flames their eighth loss in their last nine games against the Edmonton Oilers.

Flames Brass Scouting Oilers as Trade Rumors Swirl

Craig Conroy is one of several reported members of the Calgary Flames management taking notice of tonight's Oilers game. Of course this doesn't slow down some rumors that have swirled around the Oilers and Flames the past couple days.

Historically, the Calgary Flames haven’t shied away from buyouts or retaining salary

While it’s undoubtedly true that the Flames would prefer not to spend money on players that play for other teams, numbers don’t lie. Since 2010, the Flames have doled out over $14 million to pay players not to play for their hockey club.
The eight instances of the Flames busting out their cheque book to help players depart represent seven buyouts and one retained salary transaction.

Markstrom demonstrates once again why now isn't the time for Flames to trade him

The case for keeping Jacob Markstrom past the March 8 trade deadline grew by another two points on Thursday.

Without him, the Calgary Flames don’t win an overtime thriller to complete the most improbable of season sweeps against the Boston Bruins.

Without him, they don’t stay on the fringes of a playoff picture.

Without him, all hope is lost for this season.

6 PPs for he Oilers to 0 for the Flames. McBaby hasn't scored in 8 games. Let's make it 9, boys. Go Flames.

Keep focused. Lose the noise. Play your game. Hit. Defend. Offend (though stay out of the Box). Score. Save. Win.

Just. Effing. Win.

YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

Zary hatty tonight and Kads will be flying. Also think Posp puts on a friendship tour performance for the ages. Go Flames Go!

I really had a chuckle when I stumbled upon the no goods lines from last night.
That 4th line must be the best ever all time.(see above).

GFG!

Weegar Is right. When our D can contribute offensively we win allot of games.

Him mentioning the forecheck is even more important. A well-played 200 ft game played by everyone wins games and any of our goalies can shut the door . It's really that simple but why do we always play well win 2 to 4 and turn around a go full on bi polar and lose the ground we just gained.

This has alway been a mystery. Regardless. As Locke says darkly ....our enemies must be crushed .

I want Pospisil to have a night. It’d be good for Huberdeau to get a bunch to shut up the Oil fans too. I want Markstrom to stone them. I want the Flames D to deny McDavid and Hyman lanes to the net and destroy Pissy’s will to play. I want Zary to make their D look dumb.

I would really enjoy an absolutely embarrassingly bad game for the Oilers where the Flames dummy them 7-1 or something sending them into a 16 straight loss tail spin. Go Flames Go!

If markstrom can overcome his yips against the Oilers I have no problem with keeping him here.

I'm hoping for a huge Flames win, followed by the media and Oiler fans blaming their tough schedule and coming off a back 2 back (with no travel, contrary to the Wild tonight).
