I’m interested in seeing him play. I’ve heard a lot of praise on this board but haven’t caught many wrangler games to form an opinion

Nice, was just pissed off reading that he's still out, so that's cool.

Great to hear that he is back skating. Probably still a while yet before any action. Sucks that such a freak injury happened to him at this time, he would for sure would have had his number called this season.

If he's just skating now, it seems like this year is pretty much a write off for Poirier.
Hopefully he plays enough of the season to at least be conditioned for next year.
He did look outstanding to begin the year, so he remains one of the more exciting prospects in the system.

He'll be a great addition to our PP. He might save Savard's job!

A quick question to the medical professionals among you, how does an arm laceration affect one's ability to skate?

Or is he back skating with the team now? And was skating by himself before.

Assuming his recovery continues to go well I wouldn't be at all shocked to see him up with the Flames for a look after the deadline. Certainly seemed to be headed in the right direction and probably would have been up already otherwise.

Here's hoping he can stay healthy and play a big role down the stretch for the Wranglers. Even 25-30 games would be a win development wise and set him up to challenge for a roster spot next year.

That's a good question. I wonder if it has something to do with him being on blood thinners. I'm guessing that with an injury like that, there is some risk of losing part of your limb if they don't get the blood flowing adequately.

Totally a wiiiild ass guess.

A while ago on 960 they mentioned that a pretty major artery was cut and part of the process would be blood thinners for some time. So this is probably just the first of many small steps. I think they ball parked March or April as a return.

Can one workout on blood thinners? Or is it just activities that might result in falling and injury that need to be avoided?

I think he should make the big leagues sooner than later. Perhaps as early as a cup of coffee this year, spot LTIR duty next year and full time the following year.

Defensemen who can be creative and generate offense consistently while being able to skate like the wind are starting to become the base 'archetype' for an elite defensemen in the NHL. So it's a fantastic base to start from should he fix the warts on the defensive side of things. He had 7pts in 4 games but even after that was only at a +1.

Yay. Man it sucks that he was on a tear to start the season and then ended up missing 5 months with a freak injury.

Hopefully no long term repercussions.

I'm hoping after the trade deadline passes that he sees a few games in a Flames uniform. It certainly looked like that was the plan prior to his injury.

For sure, no rush at any rate, let him settle back in and try and help a depleted Wranglers squad get back on track to doing damage in the playoffs. I’m excited to see what he can do in the NHL for sure though, can’t wait!
