So it should lead one to believe that if Kipper plays to his ability this team should be a winning club.

Of course. Kipper had 2 really bad games, both after long layoffs, and 1 bad game.
He will be fine. Just like Iggy they are always there in end no matter how many people doubt them on CP.

San Jose (at home), Anaheim and LA (on road) this week. Should provide a pretty good measuring stick for Flames management going forward.

Someone needs to tweet Marleau and Thornton that tomorrow nites game is a playoff type game.

Backups since the lockout:
- 2005-06 4-5-0
- 2006-07 3-5-1
- 2007-08 3-4-0
- 2008-09 1-6-1
- 2009-10 5-4-0
- 2010-11 4-5-6
- 2011-12 2-7-4
Totals:
- Record 22-36-12
- 56 points in 70 games
- .400 point percentage
- .314 win percentage
The 6-5-2 record during Kipper's absence was really nice to see, and I felt it could have been better, with the Colorado and Minnesota games being the two that stood out. For the first time in a long while I'm not nervous about the second game of a back to back or whatever situation requires the backup. I hope Kipper can still play a lot of games, and play like he is capable of, but hopefully he can get some rest to keep him fresh, and the team can still get a victory when he's on the bench.

How soon after does this team become lazy on the back-check again expecting Kipper to bail them out?

I think they have been pretty lazy on the backcheck for most of the season.

Kipper hasn't played to his ability in many years. His stats have declined each year.

Yeah, his .921 save percentage last season was pretty weak.

Is that so? You must use a different form of counting than I do.
08/09 - 2.84/.903
09/10 - 2.31/.920
10/11 - 2.63/.906
11/12 - 2.35/.921
I don't know what you see but I see 2 of the last 3 seasons being a statistical improvement from the year before.

If it wasn't for Kipper last year, the Flames would have challenged for last overall.

If this team gets any lazier on the back check, there will be patio furniture on the ice.

Just Thornton.
I believe it's Marleau's turn to do well in the playoffs this year.

Do you still think Thornton doesn't show up in the playoffs? Yes, he had a few bad ones, but he hasn't had a stinker since 2003-04. Here's his last two years:
2011-12
Joe assisted on last two goals of 4-3 loss in game 3 and scored San Jose's only goal in each of games 4 and 5 as the #7 seed SJ loses to the #2 seed St. Louis, who was 2 points off the President's Cup. Yes they lost the series in 5 games, but not because of Thornton.
2010-11
Joe scored the OT series winner in game 6 against LA in the first round.
Against Detroit in the 2nd round he assisted on the game tieing goal in game one, the OT winner in game 3 and the opening goal in game 6 that eliminated them.
In round three he opened the series scoring. In the only game they won he assisted on three of the four goals. Only Tim Thomas was able to stop that Vancouver team.
Patrick Marleau had a terrible series in last year's playoffs. In the eight years prior to that he had really good numbers,

I presume that Kipper will not be ready tomorrow, considering Taylor was not put on waivers.

I think he has already cleared in the last month so he wouldn't need to again.

I'm going to bet on it being MacD tomorrow and Kipper on friday at the death pool. But I actually wouldn't hate to see Taylor in again. Just cause I'm rooting for the guy and his career, and back to back starts (and possibly wins) could lead to good things for him. But the far safer bet would be Joey.
However, if Kipper gets thumbs up tomorrow from the docs etc, wouldn't be surprised to see him either.
