King is on the Fan right now, or maybe it's a replay.

If I were to guess, it would replace the second level/nosebleeds.

It was a good interview. I think he certainly softened the ground toward the Victoria Park option.

Regarding McMahon, just give me BMO field from Toronto. Not super flashy, good sight lines and a covered stand in an outdoor stadium. Even better would be heated and drained grass with grow lights...

Good interview. 3 key takeaways for me.
1) Ate crow for giving a dumb answer
2) Softened on a Victoria Park concept and said something to the effect of it could end up being great
3) Kept the relocation threat on the table by calling his answer "untimely" (or "ill timed" I forget the exact words but it stood out) instead of "wrong"

It's pretty simple at this point. The Flames will accept CalgaryNEXT is in fact dead and will move on, and we'll have Plan A in Vic Park all wrapped up in about 3-5 months. Or the Flames are all in and it's either they get CalgaryNEXT or are becoming the Kansas City Flames, and this will drag out for another year or three. I hope they see the writing on the wall and take the easy path here.

No, I don't think that was mentioned. Here's the link to the interview.

I think there is plenty of ground between those two options. 3-5 months for Vic Park seems hopelessly optimistic and King standing firm on CalgaryNext seems just hopeless. I doubt either is likely.
From what I caught from the interview, is that Vic Park may be a decent option, but it does not address the Stamps and McMahon. King is worried, and rightfully so in my opinion, that McMahon could be "orphaned" in the process.

The Stamps problem is football is a TV sport and it's only becoming even more of a TV sport and less of a spectator sport. It's extremely difficult to justify any significant money for a new stadium, unless that stadium is not bound by NIMBY-ism. But since being on or near transit line is essential to ensuring anyone goes to any new stadium, that basically ensures NIMBY-ism will be a problem and hosting any other types of events will be a non-starter unless it's a stadium on the edge of Seton or Rocky Ridge. If I was King and Co. I would fully support Vic Park and then just hope the city gets the Olympics and maybe you get a stand alone stadium for free, ideally something that's not terrible and no good like CalgaryNEXT.

Hah if he goes on station that is not affiliated with the Flames, he might actually have to answer the real questions.

I hate that he is tying the Flames arena needs with the Stamps. 2 completely different leagues and priorities. The Stamps play 9-10 home games a year in a second rate league. I used to be a Stamps season ticket holder because it was cheap and I got to drink in the sun on a summer afternoon and watch some sports. Personally I have no issue with McMahon and think some renovations would be nice. I hate the field house idea to house the Stamps considering they are the playing in a Dome stadium.
The city wants to spruce up McMahon and build a field house that solves those problems and most importantly the Victoria Park arena project solves the most needed facility in the city which is a new events centre.
I like Calgarynext as it really transforms the downtown of the city and adds needed infrastructure to an area of the city that is currently under utilized due to the contamination. Having said that I don't think it is feasible in the timeframe needed. I believe calgarynext is 10+ years away but Victoria Park is 5ish years away

Precisely why he should do it. Yeah, it'll be uncomfortable for him but if your plan can't stand up to anything except puffballs lobbed at you in slow-motion then your plan is a ####ty plan and should be reworked.
I mean Kings selling tactics (which I think is backwards) is obviously to try to convince the public and use public support to leverage a "yes" out of City Council. If he could get enough folk out of friendly media it'd be done already, so either he needs to change tact or broaden his message.
