My wife thought that has well, she was like "It's the Chicken guy!", and I thought it was to soon for that, so I guessed Nacho.

I always love Jimmy's scenes with the seniors. I have to check our "solicitation" rules and see how it compares to what they are suggesting from the ABA.

Is the submarine movie a metaphor for Davis & Main? Begley called Jimmy an arsonist.

Why can't Jimmy do it the right way? It's like he wants to get caught.

Chapter 3:

I wasn't sure if Mike's Daughter-in-Law was lying or whether she actually believed it and is basically going nuts.

The reason? They are avid Breaking Bad fans and believe that the spin-off will taint the original, especially since it is a series based around Saul Goodman.

I haven't been able to convince them otherwise.
Better Call Saul is having that impact on me.

The more backstory we're getting about Mike, the less it feels like it corresponds to what we know about Breaking Bad Mike.

I don't mind it because I thought Breaking Bad fizzled out in the end, but it's definitely impacting how I view the Breaking Bad series as a whole.

Care to expand on why? And what story/character points are doing that?

I'm supposed to believe Mike went from retired Beat Cop in philly to right hand man to the largest drug kingpin in the American Southwest in 7 years?

He went from taking kickbacks as a cop to organizing and vetting hundreds of individuals in an ongoing, potentially billion dollar criminal enterprise?

"If I can't find anything on you before 1987, I doubt Schrader can."

Also, Kaley seems to be the same age.

It's a bit of a stretch, but I also feel like Season 5 of Breaking Baddid a good job of doing the same thing.

a man like him has a certain set of skills

I don't find it too much of a stretch. He killed two cops who killed his son, he's muscle for a drug dealer, he's already dropping his moral code for no heavy work.

I think Mike's character has been pretty consistent, and his backstory has been built well enough to be believable.

He has the connections, capabilities, intelligence, and foresight. He is also extremely cautious and detail oriented. He found ways to survive the police force in Philadelphia, amidst the corruption/justice duality, until his son's ethics challenged his own.

However, I did have to wonder why Kaylee seems, at youngest, 8 although it is set 6 years before BB and she is 10 in that series.

Throughout this whole series, I've always wondered what caused her daughter in law to die/disappear as it was clear that she was never present in Breaking Bad and Mike took over custody of the kid.

I think this moment has to allude to an early form of dementia or something

that bugged me too.
For a show that seemed to pay attention to details, how could they get something so obvious like a kid's age wrong in an origin story? She should no older than a toddler

Why didn't Mike kill Tuco?

Like the gun dealer, he wants repeat business.

Saul is coming soon.

Mike's storyline is really stealing the show.

Besides, evidently, from being the primary antagonist to the title character? Who knows?

I think the show is as much about Jimmy losing his relationship with Chuck as it is about losing his relationship with Kim. We'll see, I guess.

I may be misremembering but I don't believe Mike was the custodian of the girl. I thought it was that he was on bad terms with the daughter-in-law (though it wasn't clear at the time whether she was daughter or daughter-in-law) and that he only ever got to see the granddaughter briefly now and then. I definitely remember him having to drop her back off at her mother's house.

EDIT: Also, I knew I recognised Tuco's delivery man from somewhere. He's Krazy 8, the guy Walt kept in his basement in the early days of Breaking Bad.

What is the story with the post-Breaking Bad cold openings? Is there just one per season and are they going to culminate to something eventually?

Who knows. It's clear if you listen to Gilligan and Gould that they are only a few steps ahead of us in knowing where the overall story is going. In Breaking Bad, Saul was supposed to come to Jesse's house to clean up after Jane OD'd. Odenkirk was unavailable to shoot the scene so they auditioned people to play a cleaner to get the scene done. Jonathan Banks got the part. Imagine how different Breaking Bad would have been with no Mike.

They rely heavily on letting the cast and crew develop the people and places they write for and about and build from what works.

I loved the Mike quote "When you kill your partner, that's a bell you can not unring". Maybe someone should have said that to Walter before he killed Mike.
