Do I have to join a clan or can I run through the game on my own? I never played the demo and still don't understand the concept of single player in this game. If you go through the game by yourself do other online players exist more as bots just fighting on your side?

Is the game generally solo-able? I have zero interest in teaming up with a stranger to perform any sort of task what so ever. PvP does not interest me in any way shape or form. Is there anything in this game for me? Or will I be forced to bring my well below average FPS skills to drag a group of players down?
Game is definitely solo-able and what I've noticed is in the "common" areas leading up to the main mission location is where you will bump into other people. Once you actually reach main mission area, you're separated from others into your own version of that location.
I'm generally not a FPS fan for the most part but this is fun enough to push past just being another FPS with its sci-fi aspects. I don't know if you'll enjoy the game as much if you intend to solo the PvE. Best thing to do is watch a stream where people are soloing and seeing if you enjoy that enough to jump in.
Also, got to almost lv10 at 6AM and had to call it a night.

So if I picked up this game how does it work? I can join up with a few of you guys and play the main mission, or I can play the main mission myself if I wanted to?
If the above is true, how many people can you play the main mission with? Is there a 'story' to this, or is it just a bunch of 'missions'?

1) Both.
2) Both.
You can play with yourself or with friends (just ask to join their 'Fireteam' or invite) and you'll show up in the same mission as whoever's the leader. The story isn't entirely linear as you could go back do the story missions again. On top of the story mission, there are a couple exploration maps where you do mini quests for reputation. That in turn allows to buy better gear at Lv20.
Also Strikes which is a 3 man mission to eliminate one big boss. Gets pretty epic/tedious depending on whether you're prepared for it or not. Did one with PowerPlayoffs06 earlier today.
On a random note, both physical copies of Destiny from Amazon and Bestbuy have either shipped late or is lost somewhere in BC. Expected arrival date is 9/12. I guess either digital or physically picking up the game is the only thing you can rely on.

I pre-ordered from Best Buy and my copy is out for delivery today. Maybe the shipping issue is only affecting some people?
