Default How are the other top picks doing?

We know how Monahan is doing so far, and we've heard a little bit about Horvat and Shinkaruk, but what about some of the other guys?

Saw that highlight from AC with Nicushkin, so looks like Dallas is liking that pick so far..

How are some of the other top picks doing in preseason so far? Mackinnon/Drouin/Jones/Lindholm, and crap can't even remember the name of that other highly sought after Center we were going for..

How are these players looking so far?

We'll likely be seeing Lindholm this year:
"The opportunity is there for him to start with the Hurricanes," he declared at a press conference. "I will be shocked if he doesn't, based on...what I've seen."

And I wouldn't be surprised to see him bump Jordan from the 2nd line slot.

I heard that Nurse is having a great camp. He won't make the team this year but when they picked him, they thought he was 3-4 years away and now they might think its sooner.

I thought he had committed to his SEL team?

Wouldnt that just steam Jordan's balls after leaving the Penguins for a better shot at 2nd line minutes.

He is having a good camp. He will be sent back to the OHL this year to get more experience and add some more weight/grow into his body. He should also be on the World Junior team this year.

Very surprised to hear about Lindholm.. is he really performing well enough to make the jump this season? Cause all indications pointed to him wanting to play another year in the SEL.

I got a little jealous of the Nichuskin pick when I saw some of his highlights so far.. Looks like he may be impactful right from the start. But then I think about how he might take to some adversity or less ice time this season..

Overall it seems like this really was a strong draft.

Anyone heard about Drouin so far and his chances to make the Lightning?

Oh I thought when we were talking about lindholm before, we thought he wouldn't be ready for another year.

Took a look at the Tampa board on HF and it seems that Drouin didn't dominate like people thought he would at the rookie tournament. They moved him to center because they think that he doesn't get the puck enough as a winger. You'd have to think he would at least get a sniff at the NHL for 9 games considering how he dominated junior last year.

Out West, Horvat has been a little slow, but it seems Shinkaruk has already won the Calder.

Haha, he's getting more airtime on he Team 1040 than Luongo, Kesler and Torts...it's quite a amazing!

I hope he continues to shine and makes the team out of camp... Then, about game 10 or so... Turns into an entitled floater!!

Yeah, it's surprisingly tough to get a read on prospects around the league because this is prime hype season and every team and their media are pimping their new toys. But it does sound like a really strong draft year.

Watching the Toronto game, Ristolainen looks strong in Buffalo.

Let their media keep raising the expectations for him, then once he starts to flop... The fan base will sh*t on him haha...

Seems like Ristolainen is having a great camp in Buf. Lots of strong competion on d there but he looks like the fav to stay so far. Very composed, well-rounded 18 year old.

Zadorov also having a good camp but I think he needs more time.

Have not heard much on Jones in Nashville. Anyone have insight on him?

I was at the pre-season game in Carolina vs Columbus last Wednesday and hardly noticed Lindholm at all. He lost every draw that I saw him take and lost most of the battles for pucks in the corners or along the boards. Wasn't particularly impressed with him at the Red-White scrimmage the Sunday prior to that either. He really didn't stand out to me, good or bad, which was surprising as there were a lot of skaters that will be headed to Charlotte in that game.

I would be very surprised if he ended up at 2nd line centre instead of Staal, instead I see him getting adjusted to the pace and physical aspects of the NHL game at the wing. In a year or two I could see Eric Staal moved to left wing, Jordan centering the first line and Lindholm centering the 2nd.

The Hurricanes have been experimenting a lot this pre-season. Skinner also has expressed interest in playing centre, but is not strong enough defensively to play the position. It also appears that Zac Dalpe is not going to make this team again and will be waiver eligible.

Nurse just went off with what looked like a shoulder injury. Hopefully he's alright.

edit: oh he's on the bench, must just be sore.
