To start with, there is one crappy gas station tucked away to refill your rental car.
Then I got stuck in the security line on Tuesday for Air Canada. They were renovating it so they had it down to two lanes through security. The line was so long that there was a stream of people being escorted or pushing their way to the front to avoid missing flights. That just made the rest of us wait even longer.
I can't wait for the renos to be complete.

NEXUS is the best thing ever invented for people who travel even semi-frequently. Will get even better if the promised dedicated screeners and privileges for trusted travelers comes about.

Yesterday was the last scheduled day for British Airways operating the new 787 Dreamliner on the LHR-YYC flight. As of today it reverts back to the old 767-300.
Eventually though if BA stays in the YYC market they will have no 763's left (they are phasing them out) and the 787 will come back.

NEXUS is the greatest thing, but it's a pain at YYC for the following reasons:
- machines are always broken at YYC
- the machines at the US customs entrance area are too complicated. I can't tell you how many times people just sit there when they need to hit buttons

My sister's family has Nexus, and on a recent family trip, it took them longer than us regular folk to get through customs at YYC because of the machines. But they still ended up breezing past us in the shorter security line.
I don't do a lot of travelling for work anymore, and although most of it was domestic anyway, it would have been worth getting Nexus even just for the short security lines.

When the Machines are broken I've just walked through and been waved right up to the US border guard at the first booth. What are people doing that takes them so long?

The Airport Authority is reporting to City Council this morning.
The new terminal has been pushed back from Fall of this year to Fall 2016.
Ouch.

Nope, in his presentation CEO Garth Atkinson made no mention as to why.

If anything, he seems to imply it may or may not have been the expected timeline for quite some time... they just conveniently didn't mention it.

It's a minor inconvenience of a light right now, but it sure would be nice if the airport would just get an interchange up at Barlow and Airport Road (intersection visible at the top left of the above pic).

I'm actually a fan of traffic circles. How well would one work for this intersection?

There are supposed to be 22 new gates in the new terminal. Based on the renderings on the Airport's website, it looks like each of those arms will be able to handle two smaller planes at a time (or one large one).

I would think that in an area like an airport it would be best to have roads as simple as possible since you are dealing with people from all over the world in a new area.
I know traffic circles are not rocket science, well not for most people, but keep it simple is what I would say.

That makes more sense, thanks! 22 gates sounds more realistic, lol.
(Is that 22 gates including the 'double jetway' feature? Or could the terminal potentially take up to 44 narrow-bodies?)

From user Johnny Aussie over on SSP, looks like Rouge is deferring their new YYC-YHM (Hamilton) flight that was scheduled to start this summer:
Quote:
Saw something on flyertalk then this on YHM's site.
http://flyhamilton.ca/news/air-canad...erred-to-2016/
So rouge is deferring YYC-YHM until May 2016 due to "fleet constraints" per an Air Canada spokesperson.
Hmmmmmm... Is that a nice way to say.... "bookings not meeting expectations so we are going to utilise the aircraft that was being allocated to this route elsewhere.."
Sorry but for a route that was to commence in just over two months any "fleet constraints" would have been ironed out well before now.

Landed on the new runway yesterday and I have to say it provides an awesome view of downtown. New terminal looks great too.
