I enjoy watching some fans trying to rationalize these trades into something good or positive. Especially the Phaneuf one.

Good post Roof-Daddy. Makes things look a bit better.

Another way to look at it is:

White replaces Phaneuf
Stajan replaces Jokinen
Mayers replaces Prust
Hagman/Higgins/Kotalik fill in for Dawes/Moss/Conroy/Sjostrom
2 players in the press box unless Backlund gets sent down

If when Dawes/Conroy/Moss get back we're at 17 forwards and something else needs to happen, unless it's after the deadline and then I guess we could go to the playoffs with 17 forwards (?)

As for the deal.. not sure yet. I do think it makes us a better team in the short-term (we really needed to pick up some forward depth), but I really don't like how we dealt away a major asset without any real regard for the future. It's just a risky move by Sutter.
Waters did use the phrase '2/20'

I hate this deal so much it ruined my weekend and is ruining my week so far.

I am just reporting what I heard on the radio. There is no sugar coating the Flames getting absolutely hosed in this deal.

I am still in shocked to be quite honest.

Ha, oh wow, this is one for the ages!

For loves sake people, its a hockey team, its an entertainment product.
Be emotional, be passionate, but oh my, don't let it ruin your day.

Entertainment!? Why is Jiri thanking you? He watches Avatar when he wants to be entertained, not hockey.

Because he gets that whether its entertainment or sports - it really isn't something that people should be getting in such a snit over.

Leafs fans drooling over Dion @ HFBoards. It's funny to read.

Actually, cheering for two teams in the NHL stopped that.

Really wonder about some of the people around here. I don't think it was ever a question of who won the trade initially, but you really do need to wait a bit longer. IMO this is one of those trades that helps both teams. Worst case scenario Dion becomes the player some think he can still be and we get a number of servicable years out of the players we received. Best case for us Dion, turns out to be the next Souray and we laugh at leaf fans. It will probably be somewhere in the middle which would still be a win for both teams.
