The doctor tells the story from his POV:

Great read. Amazing that they preformed CPR for 85 minutes before they could get him hooked up to the machine and he survived.

wow, cpr for 85 minutes - I am assuming that a regular person (versus someone who is in much better shape cardio wise) could not survive cpr for that long

I have a question for this thread and in no way shape or form do I want this to be taken personal, political or anything else. Just curious.
If this incident had happened in Calgary or any other large Canadian city, would a young man like Cunningham received similar care? From all accounts this medical care involved some miraculous things. In several articles written, there was confirmations that a team of Dr's, nurses and others are literally driving back and forth in their own cars to save this young man's life.
I am sure the medical teams and the care being provided at a local emergency center in Calgary, such as the level 1 trauma center (Foothills) is top notch. Would this much effort to save a life occur in Calgary??
I don't think anybody has brought this up or not, but does anyone have any idea about the medical insurance coverage an AHL player has? NHL players are always advised from their agents and financial managers on added insurance coverage but generally speaking, they can afford the premiums on the added coverage.
Given where this young man started and will end up after all the rehab, I wouldn't be surprised if his total medical billings for this incident reached a million dollars.

I don't know him personally but I have friends that know him and/or his mom and brothers. So watching that choked me up a bit, just crazy how close he was to dying, and how incredible it is that he's still alive. Could have easily turned out much worse, everyone involved in saving him, from the arena to the hospital should be proud of themselves.

According to a source (holy crap I have a source...), he is going to lose a leg due to the doctors having to jimmy rig his blood flow with dilation tubes. I'm not 100% up on the details but it sounds like it's DVT.

That is really tragic. At least he has his life though which is amazing and enough cannot be said for all those heroes that went to the lengths they did. Hopefully they can find a way to save the leg too.

I'm on my phone so I'm sorry if the link is messed up.
I ran into Ryan today and we chatted for a bit. I didn't bring up Craig as I'm sure he gets asked 100 times a day about him. He told me they FaceTime'd the other night and Craig is focusing on recovering and in the long run coaching. Said he wants to be the first head coach in the NHL with a prosthetic leg. Knowing Craig, that is exactly what is going to happen.

Great story. Not sure if the Fischer jersey was the right choice for the picture though...

Cunningham hired as a Pro-Scout for the Coyotes.
Quote:
Craig Cunningham is sticking with the Arizona Coyotes.
The club has signed the former player to a two-year contract to serve as a pro scout, as well as to assist in player development with the Coyotes' prospects.
"Craig was a smart, hard-working player with an incredible passion for the game," said general manager John Chayka. "We're confident that he will bring those same qualities to the Coyotes in his new role and that he will be an invaluable asset to our organization. We look forward to Craig helping us in several areas and are excited that he is staying with the club."
