Hypothetical: If Calgary wins the Lottery - pick a path
Imagine a fairy tale land...full of gumdrops and unicorns...in which Calgary wins the 1st overall pick.
San Jose, in their efforts to secure the 'local' kid makes you an offer: 2nd/3rd & 14th overall for the 1st pick.
Would you:
-Pick the sure thing in Celebrini?
-Take the 2nd & 14th, hoping to grab two high end players instead of 1?
Looking back historically, would you rather have:
-2023: Bedard or Fantilli & Yager?
-2022: Slavkovsky or Cooley & McGroarty?
-2021: Power or McTavish & Rosen?
-2020: Lafreniere or Stutzle & Holloway?
-2019: J. Hughes or Dach & York?
Clearly it depends on the year. Is Celebrini a Hughes or a Lafreniere? How high is the high-end depth in this draft?

Please don't start a thread title with that, I almost had a heart attack reading that from in the Main Forums page. Thanks for the unnecessary serotonin shot.

Note: I'm not sure why but most of your first alternates were 3OA, not 2OA. Did you just pick them because you think they were the better choice? And if so, why not, say, Caulfield or Newhook over York in the 2019 14thOA pick?

Can you imagine the meltdown if a team that has never picked 1OA ever went ahead and moved that?

I'll do it if we give them another local kid goalie and take their next 4 1st rounders.

This is super rough and ignores what could have been chosen at or slightly below the 2nd and 14th picks, but in draft year...
2019, that would mean passing on Jack Hughes for Kakko and Cam York
2018, getting Svechnikov and Farabee instead Dahlin
2017, getting Nolan Patrick and Cal Foote over Hischier
2016, getting Laine and Mcavoy over Austin Matthews
Sometimes you end up with Hedman and Kulikov over Taveras or Malkin and Dubnyk over Ovi which isn't terrible.
I think you take the bonafide star.

So the trade is 2nd and 14th overall for 1st overall and Wolf??
That can't be right. If so I think the answer is pretty clear.
Celebrini and Wolf all day.

From what I understand, Celebrini's dad works for the Golden State Warriors and he has been in the area for a number of years. His family, while from Vancouver, are established in the Bay area.
Also, sorry for the thread title!! No intention to give heart attacks!

Celebrini...
It would have to be 2, and Will Smith before I'd even consider it.
And even then I probably lean to just taking Celebrini.

Okay that makes sense.
Hmmm I don't know. I'm a Demidov fan and making Demidov and Hage a reality is enticing.
Probably still go Celebrini though.
