Give them some stuff worth $1000 in trade for something worth $100,000...

Just disgusting of the Dodgers to do that IMO

Especially with the pressure tactics, they knew exactly what they were doing. Feels like there is just so little good left in the world sometimes. I assume, regular people catch a lucky break and there is some super wealthy entity right there to bully them into tossing it away for a fraction.

As for Ohtani lying, I have no doubt it was all the fault of the interpreter.

I would have pretended I spoke no English and left the stadium.

Meh, it’s a bit of a non story. It’s a cheap move by a deep pocket team but it’s one person at the bottom doing the talking for the organization. If a casual fan doesn’t know the value of the item and makes the deal certainly they’re making it out of ignorance but that’s the cards they’re dealt. Their only recourse is to create bad PR in hopes the team ponies something extra up but I bet if some media member didn’t question them they wouldn’t be the wiser. It’s not like they lost money. They just didn’t cash in. Capitalism. Meh.

The A’s move to Vegas isn’t exactly firing on all cylinders.

I might need to eat some crow here. Ohtani's interpreter is looking at federal charges and ESPN is reporting that their sources are saying Ohtani's version of events is accurate.

Federal investigators are charging Ippei with 16 million dollars in theft. This is bananas. If true how the hell does Shohei and his financial guys not notice this?!? I think something still stinks but I guess not with all the feds involved. What a wild story.

I wonder if the initial thing where Ohtani saying it was a gift was actually him trying to protect a guy he saw as a friend at first.

But then more came out and it became more of a "Oh #### you can't get yourself wrapped up in this as it'd bigger than we thought" issue.

Hunter Brown giving up 11 hits (or 12 baserunners) has to be something close to a modern record for a single inning (2/3 really), right?

I believe it is. After she 'came forward' apparently there were 2 other anonymous complaints. But I am not 100% positive on this

Looks like she was the 4th person according to this Athletic article.

https://theathletic.com/5421587/2024...-fraud-charge/

Quote:
The woman, who sued Bauer in 2022, accused him of choking her unconscious, raping her and getting her pregnant in late 2020. The woman also alleged four other incidents during which Bauer physically assaulted her, according to court filings that were initially made in December 2022 and updated in June 2023.

Bauer denied the allegations in court records at the time and countersued the woman, accusing her of extortion and of fabricating her pregnancy. He continues to deny any wrongdoing.

According to earlier court filings, the woman’s attorney sent a demand letter to Bauer in January 2022 seeking $3.6 million in payment. That followed two in-person meetings in which she requested $1 million from Bauer. The filings detailed that Bauer had sent the victim $8,761.09 spread out over five Venmo transactions between December 2020 and April 2021 “for alleged medical expenses accrued by” the woman.

The woman was the fourth person to accuse Bauer of sexual assault. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office declined to bring charges against Bauer last February for claims made by a San Diego woman in 2021. Two other women also alleged similar interactions with Bauer in the past, as first reported by the Washington Post. Bauer has denied any wrongdoing.

But he was suspended by MLB and then released because of this incident I think.
