Default Mike Keenan finalizing Russian Citizenship

Also, he's out as head coach of Metallurg Magnitogorsk, but will stay on with the team as an advisor.

This could open doors to being allowed to help coach Russian's national team.

Its odd timing. Yesterday that story came out and he got a lot of North American press and today hes been fired after losing a second game in a row. Given the kookiness of Russian team owners in most sports, who knows the reason or twisted logic employed here, but coinciding with the Russian citizenship thing, its likely related.

There's an "Iron Fist Stalin" joke in here somewhere.

Perhaps he was a Russian spy all along, trying to steal our hockey secrets

I've always wondered how Canadian coaches successfully coach Russian hockey teams.

A lot of KHL players cannot speak english. Does the coach work through a translator? How did Dave King and Brad McCrimmon coach their teams???

Check out Dave King and Eric Duhatschek's book "King of Russia" for a great read on this.

When immersed, you pick up a language pretty quickly, but the assistants also can help early.

Why?

Wonder if we see Tortorella show up over there as well.

Next, Mike Keenan would want to be the next Iron man of Russia. Since he is known to be a despotic coach, Russia would fit him well. Best of luck
