Kuzmenko = 9 goals, 6 assists in 22 games.
Lindholm = 5 goals, 4 assists in 22 games.

Even if it was a 1 for 1 trade, I think the Flames win. The fact we got a 1st and two decent prospects, and a mid-round pick makes this a heck of a trade for the Flames.

Brzustewicz is going to be an absolute stud.

My quote was in response to the OP saying "Kuzmenko is not the kind of player you build a winning culture around." I thought it was weird that we would look to the new guy in the room to provide "the winning culture". Great if the new guy coming in fits with the room and leads by example, however, I see it that our existing leaders should be the ones to set the example.

So I'm not exactly sure what you are talking about here...

Yeah the entire team doesn't have to be players to "build around". There are core players to build around, and they will always need skilled complimentary players.

I do agree that at the Flames present space, it doesn't make a lot of sense to keep Kuzmenko whether he's great or bad. If he's great, he'll command a good trade return and probably more money and term than you want to invest. If he's bad, you move on and laugh your way to the bank with the cap space and future assets.

*Gets hit by vehicle*
*plays 24+ minutes a night as the #1 D-man ahead of the two top D trade targets at the deadline*
*0.5 PPG season on bad offensive team*

"This man has fitness issues and is a train wreck"

Zary's-Mustache you owe Andersson a kneeling apology

Fatmus Sandwhichsson gets run over by a car, all his Swedish buddies get traded, and has to play in front of a little person in net.

Somehow it's all his fault?

Been looking at a few draft pick value models

Dom form Athletic
Older one from Michael Schuckers
Sound of Hockey

Now that the season is almost over and we can almost dial in on the picks we can revisit best case scenario.

If the Canucks do not make it to the conference finals then we will get 25-28 and around 107 (NJ pick in 4th round)

If the Canucks make is to Conference finals then it will be 29-30 (we know they will lose) and around the 94th pick (can 3rd).

According to the models 25th and 107th is the best.
26th and the 107th vs 29th and 94th are pretty much on par for two of the models.

28th and the 107th is probably worst case.

Canucks are currently sit as the worst of the division leaders, so the 25th and 26th are possible.

Best case scenario for the Flames this year would be Colorado to catch Dallas
and then have a conference finals of Vegas vs Dallas with Dallas winning and then Florida vs Carolina. That would give us the 25th pick from Vancouver, upgrade that '24 3rd to a 2nd '25 from Vegas, and pick up a 3rd in '26 from Dallas.

At least Conroy got more for Lindholm than Montreal did for Monahan. I think Fanin80 suggested Monahan was the better player to get for this season. Unless Lindholn heals and is far better in the playoffs...he very well will be correct.

It seemed absurd at the time, but the worm is turning here.

Well you could say in a roundabout way they got more as they got a 1st from Calgary previously.

The Habs absolutely killed it with the Monahan trade from the Flames. Basically turned him into two 1st round picks.

Even worse. They didn’t turn him in to 2 first round picks

They turned absolutely nothing in to Monahan with 52 points over 74 games plus 2 first round picks

If you like moving goal posts sure. For the purpose of this I'm going to say 18 months ago is less applicable

Not absolutely nothing. It cost them $6 million in cash, which they were allowed to spend only because Price is LTIR-retired.

That's the benefit of being one of the three most profitable franchises in hockey.

It was 6M in cash and cap space for 20 odd games the first year. The second year he was a UFA and another 2M. I think the credit MTL should get is signing him as a UFA. 2M in hindsight looks like nothing now, but the last time he played this many games in a season was 5 years ago. Everything definitely came up Milhouse for them.

I figure you can cancel out most of that extra 2M, because they were going to have somebody in that roster spot for those two seasons, making at least league minimum.

Basically, the Habs got a first for being the only team in a position to eat $6M in cap hit for a guy who might not even play. Then they got another first for being shrewd enough to re-sign him, correctly predicting that he would be healthy enough to play effectively.

I don't begrudge them. At this point, seeing how much he's helped Zary and Pospisil establish themselves, I'd rather have Kadri. The price of unloading Monahan was outrageous, but that's what you get with a flat cap.
