Shaw Digital Cable Cox Help!
^^That should say Box! But now that I have your attention:
I recently got shaw digital cable at my residence and it came with the box for free. However a couple of years ago when I bought my TV (used), the previous owner of that TV threw in their Shaw Digital Box with it. So I have an extra one that I would like to set up, however when I set it up upstairs it doesn't recognize the extra channels I have on the box downstairs. Is there a way around this?
Thanks in advance

You need to call shaw to activate the box. Ther's some kind of a charge for each extra box, $2 or something like that.

And the previous owners would have nad to call Shaw to release the box; or at least that was a case a couple of years ago when I tried last.

That's the process I had to go through when I bought a cable box from a member here a couple months ago.

Will they tell me who the person was who had the box before me? I bought it from a couple over a buy and sell forum a few years ago... totally legit, but I honestly have no idea of their names

if it's been long enough then the box may be in an unused status and you could get it activated. the only time you need to have someone call in to release a box is if they have an active account and that box is on that account

if the box is in their name, shaw will not transfer it to you without some sort of authorization from them. if it is in unused status, then yes, but if not, you may have to try and contact them to give their approval

no box is ever really in someone's name. it's either on someone's account (active status), in the warehouse, or floating (unused status). being that he got the box a few years ago the chances of it being active (and someone paying the fee to keep it that way) are very low, so he shouldn't have any trouble activating it on his account

well i deal with digital boxes everyday and i do the exact kind of thing the original poster asked about. as long as there isn't someone paying to have his box active on their account, then it's free game
