That was a brutal turnover by the Senators that led to the Penguins opening goal, Maatta from Rust and it is 1-0 Penguins.

Crosby with the power play goal to make it 2-0 Pittsburgh. It was a nice tip in goal from a Daley shot and also assisted from Malkin.

Did anyone remind the Sens that this is the conference finals? Two games in a row they don't show up.

The Penguins keep up the pressure and take control of the game. Bonino scores off the rebound, Rowney and Rust with the assists and it is 3-0 Penguins. Craig Anderson's 36th birthday has become a nightmare. Mike Condon took over in net for 88 seconds and Anderson came back in.

It is absolutely incredible to me to see the difference in the way this Pens team plays with Murray in net rather than Fleury. Not that Fleury was a problem in the first 2 series, but this team is just so much more confident with Murray in net. Murray's style is so cool and calm and you can see how that radiates forward. Fleury is erratic and reactionary, and the rest of the team plays that way.

Wilson scores off a rebound from a bad angle, 4-0 Pittsburgh! Rowney gets his second assist of the game.

I was just snooping around an old Kessel thread and think these beauties shouldn't be forgotten.

Condon is once again in net for the Senators as the second period begins. The shots in the opening period were 15-12 for the Penguins.

Might as well give up tons of goals, hopefully Sens wake up for Tuesday.

Apparently Sens didn't practice yesterday or before game 4. And it looks like it. Disorganized on the ice, terrible positioning, panicking with the puck.

Wow did not see that coming. Considering how banged up the Penguins are they really came to play today.

To be fair, when people talk about a team like Ottawa not showing up to conference finals games it's important to point out that they are vastly outmatched by the Pens all things equal and it's incredible that they made it this far.

They live and die by systems hockey, and eventually a highly skilled, true contender will defeat them no matter how perfect they play, and I that's probably what we're seeing now.

If the Flames made it to the conference finals this year against a contender we wouldn't really be calling them no shows, we'd likely be frustrated but be willing to admit that it's a crazy season and that we were eventually going to be outmatched.

If this is the beginning of the end for Ottawa what a successful season, must have been so fun to be a fan this year when expectations were nowhere close to this.

Lazy penalties, stupid giveaways, and terrible positional play implies a team that doesn't show up. I gotta say I would have expected them to play better today - especially after being humiliated in the first period of game 4... instead, listless uninspired play. None of the things I wrote above are due to being outplayed by a vastly superior team.

As for being outmatched, Pitt has an AHL-calibre defense - and yet Ottawa doesn't pressure them at all. Reminds me of the Jacques Martin Senators - they follow a system and can't adjust. How can a team playing against these defensive pairings NOT attack them at full blast (ie. like Sens did in game 3)?

Cole-Streit
Maata-Daley
Dumoulin-Hainsey

This defense is as bad as the Rangers and Bruins that Ottawa successfully pressured.

ETA: Sens fans have to be frustrated, the path to the finals was there, and won't be there again any time soon - stars aligned for a run. With the powerhouse teams in the East, Sens might even be in tough to make the playoffs let alone ever make another run. 10 years is a long time to wait between ECF appearanes - it's bad enough the Flames haven't been there in 13 years. Don't forget too that Cheapskate Melnyk has his internal cap and won't spend on salaries to help the team win.

What's wrong with the PP for the Sens too? On paper it should be a lot better. 0-19 in this series. They got timely, good goals against Boston on the PP. Can't adjust to the better PK and no intensity? Have they even had a shot on the PP today?
