Default Golden Knights sign KHL star Vadim Shipachyov (2 yrs, $4.5mil AAV)

https://www.nhl.com/goldenknights/ne...ct/c-289278180

Quote:
Vegas Golden Knights General Manager George McPhee announced today, May 4, that the team has signed Russian free agent forward Vadim Shipachyov (pronounced va-DEEM SHIP-ah-shoff) from SKA Saint Petersburg of the Kontinental Hockey League (Russia) to a two-year contract worth an average annual salary of $4.5 million. McPhee will be available to media via conference call on Friday, May 5. Those details will be sent by the Golden Knights Communications Staff on Friday.
Quote:
The 30-year-old forward finished third in the KHL scoring race this season with 76 points on 26 goals and 50 assists in 50 games. The 50 assists were the second most in the league. He also had 19 points on four goals and 15 assists in 17 games during the KHL playoffs, helping SKA Saint Petersburg win the league championship for the second time in his career (2017 and 2015).
Significant salary and likely high ice time probably makes Vegas very attractive for him.

Wow. Will be interesting to see how he translates to the NHL.

Very strong KHL numbers.

I wonder if Dadanov follows?

Good signing though, they will be short on top 6 talent, so definitely worth the gamble.

That's a great pickup. Hopefully Brad takes a run at Dadonov.

FWIW his NHLe is 85 NHL points in a full 82 game season on his last two KHL campaigns combined.

Can't see him putting up those numbers, but we'll see.

I like it. Nice to see one of these guys not go to Chicago, New York, etc.

I suppose, but I'd rather not see them go to a division rival either haha

That's about a million less than I heard he was asking for.

I wonder if Dadanov could be had for $2.5 to $3.0 million?

Might be worth a gamble for the Flames.

Could use a veteran guy like Brouwer to help him adjust.

Wow! I'm sure other teams didn't offer him that type of money.

Hopefully this is foreshadowing for the type of team that they want to build. I don't want this round of expansion to cause the reinvention of the trap.

The Ship & Duke, it's like the name of an English Pub in a strip mall.

Wonder if they chase after Radulov?

Hell they could do a deal with NJ to protect a player in exchange for Kovy's rights and have an all russian star top line.

Best player outside the NHL?

Better throw Roman Cervenka on that team as well.

Went from last seasons 60 points 76 points at the age of 30. Sounds anomalous to me, but I get why Vegas would be interested.

Then again at that price it's a good risk, and 60 KHL points still has a pretty good NHLe I expect.

I could see them signing Jagr too. He likes money.

He's was awful in the World Cup. Might have scared some teams off.

He wears #87 (his birth year), so the outrage from Pittsburgh should be coming in any time now.
