They don't look for contact, just for the head snap.

Refs calling something that they dont actually see. If he sees the stick hit him in the head, fine call it. Dont actually see it? Dont call it.
Some players turning the game into soccer.

Terrible embellishment aside it's pretty clear that MAF is outplaying Holtby by a wide margin and that's why the series is 3-1.

Refs screwed any chance the Caps had to tie the game. If I was Caps fan I'd be flipping tables right now.

Holtby is not playing well at all - out played vs. toronto. And now outplayed by Fleury. Its like the flames and Elliott, except the caps are a favorite to win teh cup.

The brutal thing is Bonino will gladly pay the fine in exchange for that call. It basically gave them the win.

This is why the officials are a joke. It is impossible for him to see the contact so he just assumes and calls a penalty. If you don't see the infraction don't freaking make the call.

I really wish the refs would have to face the music and speak to the media after instead of being so protected. Maybe they would be better at their jobs.

The official should get fined for making the call. So tired of the incompetency of the officiating in the NHL. It is literally deciding games and even series.

Even if there is a fine it really does the caps no good. Just brutal.

Both the ref that called it AND Bonino should get fined.

Wow. The Caps finally have their Kerry Fraser moment. That was nuts. If you're making a call in a close game with two minutes left, you had better be damn sure.

Yeah the official should have to explain to his supervisors why he called that penalty. It's clear he called it on the basis of a head snap only. IMO he shouldn't work again in the playoffs as that should be the standard that if you make a mistake that alters the outcome of the game in the playoffs then see you next season.

Horrible call basically ensure the win for the penguins.

What will it take for the NHL to have a long hard look at how bad their officiating has gotten.

What is the Ref suppose to do? Suppose two teeth were knocked out yet he did not see the actual contact or there is contact which he doesn't physically see yet the non call high stick results in the tying goal being scored. It is a no win situation for the ref, is he suppose to call a diving penalty on Bonino? How does he know for sure he is diving?

Not only should Bonino be fined he should also be suspended. Would not be surprised if this follows him for a while, when you embarrass the Refs, they have a long memory.

They missed a 4 minute high stick by the caps a few minutes earlier. It all evens out.

It is such a fresh experience watching this game in the US on NBC-SN with play-by-play from Chris Cuthbert. He is truly the best...we miss him terribly on our Canadian hockey broadcasts.
