I remember Botterill the player very briefly. I remember his sister Jennifer a lot more. Is he qualified for this job? Can anyone give me a breakdown of his skills that I won't find by reading his wikipedia page?

His name has been out there for other GM jobs so he's not an unknown. He's got an MBA and has been working in management with the Penguins for a while. I would say he's as qualified as you can get for a first time GM.

Not unprecedented for the Penguins. They let the Wild hire then assistant GM Chuck Fletcher during their cup run in 2009.

From a job prospective there isn't really much to do right now from a GM perspective anyways. The roster is set for the playoffs and really the only thing that is being worked on right now is draft preparation. If the guy is going to another team anyways, now would be a good time before he gleans any more information about the draft.

(When Flames were looking for GM, Treliving was up there on my wish list for sure, but so was Botterill, mostly because of what Mike told me about him after he had a super lengthy interview with him)
