I don't recall him having a lights out pre-season after his rookie AHL season. He's never really stood out in any NHL action when he has had the chance.

If he lost his motivation that easily, he was never ready for the NHL>

He looked terrible in every NHL appearance. There is no way he was ready, just because he looked good in the AHL.
I mean he didn't just not stand out in his preseason games and late season call ups. He looked very bad. The team can't just gift him a spot based on draft position and AHL performance

Maybe it is because of the one time Emile and his friend went to a party at his uncle Bern's bomb ass home but ended up finding his uncle overdosed on drugs and died. But before they decided to call the cops, they decided to keep the party going while pretending his uncle was still alive.
Now he feels bad.
Just a speculation.

I disagree that he looked terrible in the NHL. He didn't score, but he made smart plays and generally moved the puck forward, and I thought he was decent on defence. He seemed to go where he was supposed to go, and had good speed. Nervous looking? For sure. However, I do think he showed decently. I thought he looked better than Shinkaruk when they both were up at the same time.
Whatever he is dealing with, I hope he manages to overcome it and continue on with his career, or at least with life in general. Everyone goes through hard times, and when people don't want to make it public, other people just feel some sort of need to speculate randomly and without any insight, further putting more pressure and strain on whatever the situation may be.
Good luck Emile. Hope to see you back.

Have to agree. I've been pulling for the kid to make the big team since watching him and Monahan in pre-season their rookie year. Thought he played positionally well and had a knack for seeing the whole ice. Really hope he gets back and gets another shot with the Flames.

My first thought too. Could be a similiar situation with all the pressure. Who knows tho. Could have that compounded with some mental situation or a family issue.

Kind of disconcerting, hopefully he's okay and is able to work through whatever's going on in his life.

Best of luck to Emile and I hope he's able to work out whatever is bothering him. Good on the Flames for showing support and backing him publicly too.
I still hope to see him in a Flames jersey one day!

Ran into a member of the Stockton Heat this past weekend. He said Poirier should be back next year. Take that for what it's worth. At least it's not a Dan Ryder situation.

That's good news. I think we haven't seen the last of Poirier yet.

He has no trade value and there's no point in throwing away a first rounder, so the only option is to wait and see what happens. Had guys like Klimchuck and Poirer developed in NHLers, they wouldn't have needed to sign Brouwer. It's not from a lack of scouting or development either: between Shinkaruk and Lazar scouted and developed outside the organization, Klimchuck having a slow AHL rookie year but solid sophomores , while Poirer having a great rookie AHL year but slow sophomore, the Flames certainly got to experiment with the first round of the 2013 draft.
Hopefully he becomes a feel-good comeback story, but I'm not holding my breath

Kid was #1 on my Flames prospect list for a while. Unfortunate that he has struggled like he has.
