I sure hope so. There's a small part of me that worries that the Coilers get to face the contenders at the last possible chance in the schedule because those teams will have clinched already, so won't have a reason to play hard and/or may be resting players for the playoffs.

Good point! That’s what’s Mickey Mouse about all of this. Kane and Perry are voided contracts to begin with, now this might be Edmontons “out” also

Hopefully the skid continues, LA and Vegas get hot and the nerves of losing home ice in the first round spiral them into stick grippers like they were at the beginning of the year. LA is only 3 back, and Vegas 5. There's still a chance of falling into WC2 and facing Colorado or Dallas in round one.

Better yet, in the “one can dream” category. Looking at these schedules, if you squint, can you make an argument that the Blues can still gain 10 points on the Oilers?
