I paid around $60 for everything at the place that's just south of Heritage Drive on Macleod Trail (next to the Co-op). It definitely gets rid of the smell. Getting it done once a year makes a huge difference.

sportswap downtown does it. they have some big machine that cook it in. doesn't take to long, and is reasonably priced. i can't remember specifically the total. i would also call and make an appointment becasue they get pretty busy.

I currently have everything out in the bathroom with the air vent going trying to just dry it off but I'm not sure what to do after that...any suggestions?!
Thanks.

Some people will take Hockey Equipment to the Dry Cleaners (especially goalie equipment).

Why bother? Its to your advantage if your opponents eyes start to water when you line up at the face off
I air mine out after every game and then the wife comes along, gets into her hazmat suit and washes the jerseys, socks etc. I do believe she also sprays that febreze stuff on it as well....

I'm not sure if this works, but I heard that putting it in the dishwasher does the trick. Anyone else heard of this?

There is a reason why nobody sits near you in the dressing rooms.

The dishwasher should theoretically work for most of your equipment. Hey, if it works for cooking salmon...
Be careful about things that have glue on them, though, as the insanely hot water in some dishwashers could just disintegrate it. The glue holding the foam to your helmet, for example...some gloves, catchers, and blockers also use glue. Also not sure what the hot water could do to some plastics...

Gloves are always the worst... how do you get the stink off your hands after you play?
I've never found any tricks that work all that well.

Have you tried washing your hands with ketchup?

I know that (diluted) vinegar goes a long way for taking out any stink...so maybe this ketchup idea isn't as crazy as it seems...

I've done this, but I only do it with pieces that don't fit properly in the washing machine. For me that is the shoulder pads and shin pads. Everything else I do in the washing machine. My helmet is too disgusting to even bother cleaning, but I would probably pop out the foam inserts and do it in the dishwasher as well, not sure if glue would be an issue as has been suggested.

Wow I didn't think this thread would get so much action. Thanks for all the recommendations...the gear is in the washing machine right now and hopefully getting rid of that pre-season stench!
Thanks guys...always good to know the wealth of resources and knowledge on CP.

There is a place in the Max Bell Arena called Esporta, they specialize in washing every single piece of equipment you own, including skates, helmet, etc... I don't know whether it is still located there since Max Bell is being renovated.

If you live close to Midnapore, the dry cleaners in the mall has the machines to clean hockey equipment but I don't know anything about pricing as i haven't cleaned any of it in the 20 years I've been playing.
