Default Czechia just got a little dumber

Now keeping the code safe in Europe, Zack Kassian comes out of retirement and signs with team in Czech league.

Sparta Praha must be desperate.

I can’t stand how people villainized Tkachuk over this clown. Neither are saints but Kassian is a piece of #### on and off the ice.

Saint Kassian was the 'Keeper of the Code' though!

Oilers fans and the media that pander to them are idiots, but they're at least smart enough to know where their bread is buttered.

By "people", do you mean Oilers fans.

Anyone who actually watched that series of events saw that it started as beef between Draisaitl and Tkachuk. Draisaitl refused to step up and sent in Kassian. Like the Flames' star player had some obligation to fight their goon?

It was Oilers fans and the Canadian media.

Czechia should have czechity-czeched Kassian out before they wrecked themselves...?

(I don't care what their official policy is on a shortened official name: I'll never stop calling it the Czech Republic! )

No, I don’t. Go back and read posts about it basically anywhere but Flames focused places. Everyone all making Tkachuk out to be the worst person ever for a couple cleanish (borderline) hits and acting like Kassian did nothing wrong.

The worst part was the "turtling" thing. Kassian literally grabbed him from behind by the back of his jersey collar and started punching him in the back of the head. Not sure how someone is supposed to turn around and fight in that that situation. If anything, Kassian was the little weasel for jumping a guy from behind instead of squaring up.

Every single Czech person I know hates that term so I'm okay with ignoring.

It's the Czech Republic. Its a beautiful country and there was never anything wrong with it until Kassian showed up.

He owes some of this pay check to Tkachuk.

Lowe was so thrilled with this keeper of the code and old time hockey and the galvanizing the incident which seemingly turned a Flame into a national villain, that he overstepped Holland and signed Kassain to an extension like you would some freak in the carnival.
And he did it almost immediately after, in the 10 days between that game and the next game vs the Flames, soley to get some added cheap publicity for his player and the team before that next game, because the media he listened to chastised a Flames player and made his player look like a hero in his mind.

It screwed up the Oilers cap for the next few seasons. Kassain fought Tkachuk the next game and that was that. Both players moved on, teams moved on, and media then had no choice to get past that circus, but the Oilers were stuck with an extra contract and cap hit they hadn't planned on, purely becuase of the President's hubris.

This. It was apparently a name they came up with to not "confuse English speakers" or something like that, especially in the context of sporting events, but the people in the Czech Republic hate it.
