Was told to me by some city planner guy. He explained, the high ridership in the north meant the transit system was working, so people used it. Whereas the abysmal transit access in the southeast, and the DF north chokepoint over the Bow, meant it was the better choice to solve both those problems.

Edit: he did not mention the dbags, but now that i think about it...

also the maintenance center is planned to go by 130th ave SE. Therefore, they have to build the line to the SE to have the maintenance center.

That's only because that was part of the decision, though. It could have just as easily been in the north(and they had a site selected as well if that was the case).

I don't know when your image is from but I remember Chu being very supportive of the green line. Maybe that is old or maybe his views have changed recently. I don't keep up with everything Chu because he isn't my Councillor.
This is why I thought he was in support of the green line:

Unfortunately his initial resistance to the Greenline, if you see Fuzz’s links, was when his opinion actually could have made a difference.

The image is from the links I provided earlier, which were from his 2013 campaign.

You will note that the article you linked to is Chu supporting the green line plan that doesn't reach his ward. He's supporting the south plan, not the one that would actually be useful to his ward residents. It's baffling. This is the plan we were left with specifically because he lacked any advocacy work at all over the years he was councillor, for the reasons in my previous image, and where he says he would only support it after the south was done.

This is what it feels like to be represented by Chu. You really shouldn't give him any benefits-of-he-doubt, because he hasn't earned that, at all.

He was my councillor until Ward boundaries mercifully put me into Ward 3 with competent representation.

I was in 7 until the ward boundaries unmercifully put me under his rotting fetid influence.

I don’t like her as Premier, but rail transit excites me.

with a new government agency to manage the planning of plans

they're definitely going to push to do the commuter lines first.

I assume the trains will be diesel powered. Or steam locomotives powered by coal.

Or farm wagons pulled by coal rolling F-350s.

IMO even if you switched the wards that Chu and Keating represented, you would still have the same result. The Green Line planners were always far more interested in going SE than N, and forced that way when they only looked for maintenance yards sites in the SE, picking Shepard which is almost as far from downtown as the Red Line terminus station at Somerset. And once the Green Line budget nearly doubled in costs, being forced to go 18 km south to reach the yard meant there was no money left to go north.

And while Chu was bad at advocating for LRT for Ward 4, that ward at least is pretty close to downtown and has frequent and high capacity bus service. It's Ward 3 (communities north of Beddington Trail) that really needs it and whose councillor was also absent.
