We didn't have Cammellari to trade for Drouin.

I like it from the Habs point of view.
They traded a 9th overall for a 3rd overall.
The 3rd overall has shown he can contribute at the NHL level in a scoring role.
The 9th overall could end up being Dougie Hamilton, or Ladislav Smid, or Brian Lee, and you probably won't find out which for 5 years.

Good news for Drouin is he'll likely get that big payday he wants.
Bad news for Drouin is he's now going to pay double the tax on it.

Yeah MTL wins this trade as of right now. Sergachev is a very nice piece but Drouin doesn't have any question marks left. Yzermans hand was forced which meant he wasn't going to get one for one.

We will also see what Drouin signs for. Word is he wants a deal similar to what Barkov, Monahan, and Mackinnon got.

I think this is a win for both teams. Higher risk for Tampa I suppose but I don't think they'll regret this.

The kind of trade that can really tank a GM's reputation. Does Drouin explode like Forsberg post trade? Does Sergachev bust, or end up being a bottom pairing guy?
Lots of risk for Yzerman. But I like it for both teams.

McKenzie hinting Habs might be going after Brodin next.

In Yzerman's case you have to also analyze/judge what he does with the cap space he gets by not signing Drouin. By trading Drouin he can arguably keep the core of his team together longer.

The first one is the guy I mentioned in my post, Noah Juulsen.

I'd be shocked if Sergachev busts. He looks like a future top pairing d-man in the making. I think 2nd pairing is his floor.

Sergachev was benched this year, no? Tough trading a top prospect but the Habs need scoring and Drouin has proved he can do that.

And turning a recent disaster (Drouin strife) into a great asset.
When there was lots of pressure on Stevie Y to deal Drouin he was composed and patient, netting a good return in the end and some significant contributions from the player in the meantime. That's impressive.

If Sergachev ever becomes a top-pairing D and Droin tops out at 50pts, then a Tampa win
But otherwise this is a win for Montreal IMO
Proven asset is better than the unproven one.

You're acting like he traded a bucket of #### for a prosciutto sandwich. He traded a great asset for what could be a great asset. Drouin wanted playtime and couldn't get it and then when he did he promptly made them look stupid for not giving him playtime.
