#25 - Max Reinhart

Reinhart, a Centre from Vanouver, BC, was drafted by the Flames in the 3rd round (64th overall) in the 2010 Entry Draft. Max spent 4 years with the Kootenay Ice of the WHL, winning the Ed Chynoweth Cup (WHL Championship) in 2011. During that playoff run, he tied a league record becoming the 4th player in WHL history to score 5 goals in one game as well as scoring the most goals of any player in the WHL playoffs. In his final season with the Ice, he led the team in points and was named to the WHL Second All Star Team. Reinhart has also represented Canada twice in international competition, the first time winning Silver at the 2009 World Under 17 Ice Hockey Challenge and then at the 2010 World Under 20 Junior Championships where he was the most penalized player. After finishing his Junior career, Reinhart joined the Abbotsford Heat where he broke the single season franchise points record (63) in the final regular season game for the Heat and was given the team's Fan Favourite Award. Max made his NHL debut on April 6, 2013 against the Vancouver Canucks and scored his first NHL goal on April 13, 2013 against the Edmonton Oilers. Reinhart is on the final year of his Entry Level Contract and will become an RFA at the end of this season.

We're actually third in the division now, as Hamilton has blown by us like we were standing still......actually not "like" we were standing still, because we actually were standing still.

Bulldogs currently hold down the 8th playoff spot, we are 4 points back of them with 2 games in hand. Also, Texas is in 9th (we are in 10th) so we'd have to leapfrog them as well.

Pretty disappointing month from the Baby Flames.

Ack! Templates and not double checking. I knew Hamilton was coming up on us too. The upside is that they are 4 up on us and 2 games ahead. So it's possible to make that room up. Same deal with Texas, they are 3 up on us and 2 games ahead. If we can win the next two games, it puts us in a better spot.

It's not terrible. Basically missing just Potter, Granlund, Arnold, Setoguchi and Culkin. Culkin is a huge blow to the defence, but if Kulak can smarten up we should be okay. Arnold should be coming back soon as well so that will be a great addition to the lineup. Wolf is coming back to and he was on fire before he left so hopefully he comes back with the same amount.

Drury, what's the word on Ferland, or your general feeling?

He hasn't been the same player since that hit from Volchenkov concussed him. Is it confidence? Is it lingering concussion symptoms? Is it a low reading on his "give-a-sh@t-meter"?

Kid has just 1g-3a-4p in 21 games since going back down, and only has one point in his last 15 games. Really disappointing to see him fall off a cliff like that.

There hasn't been any word on Ferland and having any post-concussion related symptoms. I don't know one way or another if he's having them. The fact that he's played consistently (except for the scratch last game) since recovering, I don't imagine he's having them as there is a much stricter protocol in place to ensure players aren't jeopardizing their health. Plus, he was playing alot better right after he returned, lots of shots and that's when he was getting points here and there. Now? He's putting maybe 2 SOG a game and floating on the 4th line. Maybe unfair to say, but you can look at his stats per game and almost point out where he realized that he was passed on the depth chart and not getting a call up anytime soon because it just drops off.

My feeling is that he doesn't care anymore. His play shows that. Even when Baertschi was having his little temper tantrums you at least saw something out of him. Trying too hard and making mistakes, getting in people's faces, getting pissed off. Not going to say what Baertschi did necessarily was right or helped him but you at least saw that he had some emotion and was mad and it was bothering him and he wanted it to change. Ferland has nothing. He's not complaining about everything, he's not getting all physical with players and trying to take frustration out by slamming them into the boards, he's not trying to go through goalies to get a goal and making desperation plays to help himself. He's just there, occupying a jersey. I think being cut from camp, getting injured and then immediately returned, not being called up after that, the lawsuit in the offseason, the concussion in his first game giving him a setback in getting an NHL chance, the fact he was going to quit hockey in 2012-13, he probably is just done. He's being passed on the depth chart, I would venture to say he isn't getting another call up this year as other players have shown better and he probably knows it. I wouldn't be shocked if he's checked out.

Another big thing is you don't see him out at charity events with the rest of the team. The AHL Flames are big in the community and he's definitely a missing body. They also seem really close and posting pictures of shenanigans and again, he's noticeably missing. He doesn't look like a part of the team anymore. Even Trevor Gillies whose basically a pressbox occupier is on social media giving the guys the gears or at events or with the guys. I have yet to see anything with Ferland. Even the elusive Max Reinhart has been in a picture or two.

Crazy. If all that is indeed the case, what a turn around from the first two months of the season.

Yea, he seemed to come back this year a little more prepared and a little better. That could be part of why he's mad now. He apparently wasn't pleased getting cut out of camp and then everything has gone downhill again on him from there.

Careful, Drury - you're assuming a lot there.

I agree that he has not shown a lot of emotion in the past month, but let's not make claims that he has quit on hockey just yet.

Yeah... That's quite the turn for someone with a lot of skill and talent who is definitely one of the flames better prospects, struggles this season or no...

Here's hoping he gets his groove back. A lot of us were pencilling him into the NHL roster at some point this season.

I'm not sure where I've said he's quit on hockey. He's sure quit on the Flames though and I'd love to see proof of otherwise.

This has progressed far beyond just having a tough season and struggling. He's stopped showing signs of fighting. Reinhart is struggling and he's still putting shots on net and getting into plays. Hanowski is struggling and doing the same. Baertschi has struggled and still managed to produce and contribute in other ways.

Ferland is just kinda there on the ice and Huska chose to scratch him last game because of a number of games of poor play. And it's been going on for almost 2 months.

Huska says Wolf is ready to play the Baby Oilers tonight. This should be concerning for anyone in a Barons jersey.

Bryce Van Brabant is a scratch tonight. He will be assisting the AHL Flames PBP on Colour Commentary

Edit: I assume he's a scratch. Maybe they are mic'ing him up on the bench. Not sure. He's a bit odd like that.

Ice conditions look like crap. Broadcasters also commenting how the ice is brand new, just put in this morning due to an event.

There's been 3 icings in the first 30 seconds of the game.

Flames going to the PK early as Acolaste jumped in as the 3rd man with some pushing and shoving in front of the net.

OKC has a deadly PP. Hold on boys.

Hanowski on a partial breakaway but OKC holds him up just over the blueline.

Elson has gotten in the way of a OKC setup as has Reinhart.

OKC not able to get out of their zone so far.

Baby Oilers have been taking diving lesson from the Baby Canucks. One of the Jones kids hits the ice like he's been shot. Refs don't buy.

Hathaway jumps in front of an OKC shot and bails out Ortio. He looks like he is okay.
