I'd be curious if San Jose was the team looking at Stockton. They held an exhibition game there this year.

According to the Mercury News story there will be a press conference next Thursday in San Jose to announce new AHL Pacific Division.

Hopefully they plan on getting more than 6 teams in the West/Pacific Division over the next couple of years. Having them play the same old teams for most of the season would get pretty boring.

I hope it works out but because fans support the ECHL doesn't mean they will support the AHL. The ECHL probably has players that stick around with one team and the fans can build up a relationship. With the AHL players go up and down, contracts don't get renewed because it's a development league and fans may find it harder to relate.

I assume this means that the Board of Governors at the ECHL meetings have approved these moves?

That was the last piece. They were to meet today to discuss it and if approved, the Flames (and others) could purchase the rights to move the AHL there.

The Sharks move their AHL team to San Jose. Both teams will play at the SAP Center.

Next winter, ice hockey at SAP Pavilion will have company: More ice hockey.

The Sharks will move their minor league Worcester franchise in Massachusetts to SAP Center for the 2015-16 season, this newspaper has learned. The team will play between 30 and 40 games in downtown San Jose, filling up currently vacant dates at the arena.

The move is an unconventional one. No other National Hockey League team shares a building with its minor league affiliate, although the Toronto Maple Leafs’ minor league team, the Marlies, plays in the same city at a different arena

... and all of a sudden, California has more AHL teams than Canada. Who would have thought?
