Default Morgan 'Fricken' Klimchuk

Looked around and couldn't find a thread for Morgan so I decided to make one.

His stats thus far in the WHL season.

12GP 6G 12A 18PTS 2PIM +3

I think Morgan is a very talented young player who doesnt really get the recognition he should albeit in a deep prospect pool with a lot of promising LWers. I think he and Poirier are very similar in their potential upside, I can see Klimchuk being a solid 2nd line scoring winger. He will lilkely be a PP specialist. I have seen him play 5 times now for Regina, only once in person but I really dont think this kid is any risk of being a bust. He is very assertive and confident for a player his age and has a natural snipers release plus some very good stick handling and good skating. My biggest curiousity is if he could play RW, that would really help the Flames positionally in their prospect pool. I think its possible and will depend on if he finds the shooting/passing angles useful or is too accustomed to the LW position.

Really dissapointed not to see him play in the preseason but I did watch him at the rookie camp and he managed to score one iirc. Him and agostino stood out to me in that scrimmage.

Anyhow I hope the kid continues to develop and comes back next year pushing hard for a roster spot!

Remove the stars to embed. The part in the middle is the end of the URL, after the '='.

Thanks a lot Blah!

I like this one as they mention Monahan and Shinkaruk in it. Interesting enough this interview is before the draft

12 goals and 17 assists so far this season

Proud of you Morgan! Gone a long way from those Calgary Buffaloes fundraisers. Have some spolumbo's sausage from one of those in my freezer still that I'm saving for his NHL debut.

Hopefully this kid can stay out of the limelight and develop his game for a couple years. Almost any other draft year he would have been discussed to death, but look at this. 6 posts in his thread?

I think this guy will surprise as time goes on, and part of it will be because he was the third pick in an important draft year and so much attention has been directed elsewhere.

He will most likely play next season in the WHL, hopefully make the World Juniors (I believe he his still eligible next season). Then in 2015-16 he will be ready to make the jump to pro hockey.

Hmmm, I know I said Ekblad is the guy I would draft...

But I like that Klimchuk - McDavid - Reinhart U18 line

Flames sign Morgan Klimchuk to a 3 year ELC

Morgan Klimchuk signed an entry-level contract with the Calgary Flames on Tuesday, meaning the 2013 first-round draft pick will be with the team for at least three years.

A Calgary native, Klimchuk is currently in his fourth season with the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League. He has 12 goals and 17 assists for 29 points in 26 games and has a plus-9 rating.

The 18-year-old left winger was the 28th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft.

The three-year deal is worth US$832,500 with a signing bonus of $92,500 each year and an American Hockey League salary of $70,000 per year. The contract has an average annual value of $925,000.

Just out of curiosity, since it seems to be such a relevant topic on our younger guys up in the pros. Is anyone who has seen him live able to comment on his defensive game?

Torie Peterson ‏@ToriePeterson

#Flames prospect Morgan Klimchuk is back in the lineup for the #Pats tonight. Missed 14 games with a lower body injury.

I'd love to help you out there but my Warriors suck so bad this year I rarely see him in any 'defensive' role. haha. He's had some pretty goals though.

Haha, yeah. I saw him against the Hurricanes and it was the same. But he did look good on the PK.
