Yeah, with most International sports and teams theres a more or less 'Standing' National Team, whereas with Hockey they pretty much slap together whomever they can get whenever they have to.

I agree that this is what makes them harder to compare. The ABs will have their top players together 12-15 games a year whereas in hockey we only get our top guys together for a short tournament every 4 years.

If you take the world hockey championships into account it changes considerably. Canada doesn't usually dominate that tournament and often don't even make the final. There's no rugby equivalent tournament for NZ to not take seriously, it is a big deal every time the team is together. For that reason I'd give the edge to the ABs.

Another interesting comparison with a slight edge to New Zealand:

-The All Blacks have only ever lost to 5 different teams: Australia, South Africa, England, France and Wales.

-Canada has lost to 6 different teams: USA, USSR/Russia, Czechoslovakia/Czech Republic, Sweden, Finland and Switzerland.

If not for that one horrible Canada game against Switzerland in 2006 they would be even.
