2016 CFL Season Thread
Football is back! The long offseason is behind us and we can look forward to the glorious return of our nation's favourite (and best) game.
Will Edmonton repeat? Who is the beast of the East? How does Calgary fare without Cornish? Many questions will be answered this year
Predictions:
West
1. Edmonton
2. Calgary
3. Winnipeg
4. Saskatchewan
5. BC
I think Winnipeg could have the top offence in the league (if Willy plays to his potential and stays healthy) while Saskatchewan and BC will both be tire fires in the bottom of the West (which will be an improvement over last year!)
East
1. Hamilton
2. Ottawa
3. Toronto
4. Montreal
No clear favourite in the East, I think Hamilton, Ottawa, and Toronto are all pretty even and the difference is likely who gets the best QB play.
Long live the CFL! Here's to a great season

I might switch Winnipeg and Saskatchewan, but the Riders will need a healthy Darian Durant to post a winning record this season.

I'm very excited for the season. So happy to see Argos play at BMO instead of skydome. Riders final year at Taylor Field.
I think we see something like a 12-6 take the West. Maybe the East too. I think we see a lot of parity this year, except Montreal, I think they are gonna be awful.
West:
Winnipeg - they have some holes but I think they could break out.
BC - Buono behind the bench makes them a contender
Calgary - solid as always but have some holes from last year
Edmonton - I think they have a decent campaign but don't rebound well after losing Jones
Sask - I think this is considered a rebuild year. Jones will make them more competitive but I'd say .500 is most likely.
East:
Hamilton - solid qb and coach.
TO - get the BMO field bump.
Ottawa - they will stay solid but don't have the tools to be a top team yet
Montreal - bad bad bad

Notable injuries for Week 1 games.
@Scratchingpost:
#Ticats @tedlaurent will not play Thursday vs. #Argos. Has been placed on the one-game injured list. @99Canadian99 to start. #CFL
Also of note: #Ticats @ZCollaros7 moved to 6-game injured list. #CFL
@DarrinBauming:
No sign of Andrew Harris at #Bombers practice this morning. Have to assume he's doubtful for Week 1 vs #AlsMTL.
With the American Tim Flanders at RB, Julian Feoli-Gudino enters for Jace Davis at slotback to balance the ratio. #Bombers
@PentonKirk:
Looks like Julian Feoli-Gudino will get the start over Jace Davis with Tim Flanders at tailback. #Bombers

I think the Stamps could be in for a tough year. Too much turn over on offense, new head coach, and a couple key changes on D.
Guess we will see. Hope I'm wrong.

Jones got rid of Chick because he couldn't drop back into coverage?
Looks like Suitor is going full ###### and making his game notes from conversations with Black!

I'm torn. The CFL fan in me is excited that the Argos finally have a decent home. The soccer supporter in me is pissed the Argos are at BMO in the first place.

Kind of surprising how terrible the Argos looked in that half...

Are Lawrence & Chick that good or is the Argo O line that bad?

Why?
I came here to post how awesome it is to see CFL back on grass... But apparently I'd rather find out what your concern is.

As I said earlier, from the CFL perspective the Argos moving to BMO is absolutely fantastic. But from the soccer perspective, there's good reason to be annoyed. Since I support both (albeit I support soccer to a much greater degree), it's a lukewarm scenario for me.
BMO Field was originally built to serve as the National Soccer Stadium, even though there was talk for some time in the early 2000's that a multi use field would host both sports. When the Argos backed out of the York University deal in the mid 2000's, BMO was built specifically for the U-20 World Cup. In a country where we have so few of these soccer specific facilities it's disappointing to see one paid for with public funds become multi use, even though it was really inevitable from the start that it would become multi use.
The big concern from the soccer perspective is how the playing field holds up over the course of the year. So far, looks pretty good, especially when you compare the pitch to stadiums in Houston and Dallas that were built for soccer and host high school football as well. And if it holds up into October and November then any concerns I have will go away.
Anyways, I don't want to turn this into a soccer vs. football pissing match.

Saskatchewan trying to acquire James Franklin.
Quote:
CFL sources say the Eskimos asked for 2016 No. 1 overall pick, offensive lineman Josiah St. John and a first round selection, but the Riders said no. That does not mean that the deal is completely dead.

@ArashMadani:

Per @JDunk12: Esks, Riders talking trade. EDM wants No. 1 pick Josiah St. John AND a first for QB James Franklin. SSK, coherently, declined.
