Weak draft everyone. Weak draft. 1sts outside the top 15 are likely being valued closer to a low 2nd/high 3rd

I might be in the minority in this, but I feel like Hanzal is really overrated. Glad Minny went all in for him and not us.

That s a lot to pay for a 2nd line rental. Granted it is a weak draft. Don't get me wrong would have liked to see him as a flames rental, but not at that price.

That payment makes sense for a team that's looking like a serious cup contender, and desperate for success. Lots of important players in their thirties too. (Koivu, Suter, Parise, Staal, Pominville...)
Would not have made sense for the Flames.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
MIN also receives a 2017 fourth-round pick back from ARI as part of the Hanzal trade.

So I take it this drives up the price for Landeskog and Duchene?

Weak draft, and the first round pick could likely be around 26-30. It's not like the Wild gave up a prime draft pick for Hanzal. The additional picks make this a win for Arizona, but if it was just a 1st round pick, it's a fair trade for both.

So Arizona will continue to perpetually rebuild and suck for several more years. At some point that organization needs to find a way to make actual hockey changes instead of praying that something in the brightly wrapped package will pan out.

It would basically be like trading the 45th-50th pick in last year's draft comparatively. Not a bad trade for either side.
Perhaps the Arizona GM can utilize that 1st and take someone else's garbage like they did last year to move up when they took on Datsyuk's contract to get Chychrun.

With all this talk about it being a bad draft, would be funny to see all these picks end up being gems, turning the draft year to in fact be a great one.

Wednesday is going to be the Wideman show, Dennis should show up simply in the panel and discuss his potential trade call.

conditional pick is 2019 4th round pick
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Conditional pick: If MIN wins one playoff round this year, it becomes 3rd round pick; if MIN wins two rounds, it becomes 2nd round pick.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Also, ARI retains 50 per cent of Hanzal's salary.

This is the thing with draft picks and the value fans put on them. The reality is that they are such a crap shoot. It's a good return for AZ, but I agree this makes them worse for the foreseeable future (yet again), unless they turn some of these picks into tangible players.

1st and two seconds...
Sounds familiar.
the situations aren't comparable at all but one package gets a Dougie and the other a rental Hanzal

Yeah I wouldn't have traded a 1st, 2nd and more for Hanzal.
