Default Edible Cookie Dough

Apparently this is a thing, and it's gaining in popularity. Cookie Dough YYC is now in Cross Iron mall. http://www.avenuecalgary.com/Restaur...gh-to-Calgary/

I was under the impression all cookie dough was edible? Was mum trying to kill me all those years ago?

Raw eggs are probably the biggest issue in homemade raw cookie dough. I'd guess they used pasteurized or something?

There is raw egg in some salad dressings, I'm pretty sure as long as the egg is refridgerated it's ok. I think I'm the States the egg in the store isn't in a cooler, but I could be wrong.

My daughter made some edible cookie dough a week ago. I don't believe it contained any eggs

If you don't sneak at least a little cookie dough when you're making cookies, you're doing life wrong. It's an absolute necessity.

Salmonella? Risk it.

The danger is actually in the flour. Believe it or not flour is now a danger for e.coli and salmonella contamination.

Not sure if it's just a Chinese thing, but raw egg is a non-issue for me. We sometimes crack a raw egg straight up into our rice and just mix'er up. Gives the rice a bit of smoothness and texture. Or when we hot pot, we regularly use raw egg and soy sauce as our dipping sauce.

Also if you have an issue with raw eggs, you can sous vide it at 130 for any raw preparations. It is pretty much indistinguishable from a raw egg. Raw eggs don't bother me, but figured that out when we were making a chocolate mousse cake and some who was pregnant was suppose to come over. She never come over so didn't have to go through with it, but now I know.

Old Dutch is spot on here. Raw flour should not be consumed.

I make cookie dough and freeze it in chunks for snacking. I follow fine ground oats recipes instead of flour ones. It has an awesome nutty taste from the oats.

Actually, you can go ahead and consume raw flour, and raw cookie dough in general.

The point, as with everything, is to know that it includes a very small but ever-present risk associated with it.

Rare meat poses a higher risk than both raw flour and raw eggs, yet people eat rare or uncooked meat all the time. Don't let fear-mongering stop you from licking a spoon.
