Wow! Hope LA doesn't pickup the bug in Minny and bring it into Calgary tomorrow!

Hope the Sens GM doesn't have it because apparently all the players gave him a big hug and kiss for acquiring stand out human being Alexandre Burrows. Wouldn't want it to spread.

The Flames did play in Vancouver just over a week ago so I won't be surprised when it starts affecting the team. Hopefully it doesn't affect the playoff push.

I think we're gonna see a Flame or two come down with it in the next little while.

Vancouver and Minny played last Feb 4th. Incubation period (time between contracting the virus and showing symptoms) is 12-25 days, so the flames illness may not show up until a week or two from now

The spreading of the mumps to Minnesota feels like it warrants its own thread.

Does it come to a point where the league should take a 2 week hiatus, determine who is infected, isolate and treat those players to stop this spreading further. I couldn't imagine the logistical nightmare to get x amount of games rescheduled but isn't this a fairly large risk to the players with potential long term side effects?

A person can host the mumps for up to 25 days without showing any signs. Unless the league takes a 30 day hiatus to completely control any infected players.

Adam Larsson was recently scratched due to "illness". Then he posted an Instagram picture (which he then removed) that showed he had mumps

Did any Flames catch it when they played Pittsburgh two years ago when Crosby got it?

I also thought the Flames made sure all their players were properly vaccinated at that time. If they were, will they still be protected?

I'm shocked that every team didn't implement mandatory (or at least strongly recommended) vaccinations after the last outbreak.

I'd assume it's definitely coming to Calgary in a week or two.

According to Mike Russo (Minny beat writer) both Parise and Pominville got booster shots the last time the NHL was dealing with mumps 2 years ago

Parise and Pominville were vaccinated in 2014:

Quote:
For the second time in 2 ½ years, members of the Wild have been diagnosed with the mumps.

Wild forwards Zach Parise and Jason Pominville will miss Monday’s game against the Los Angeles Kings.

Also, sources say assistant coach Scott Stevens is showing signs of the mumps, as is a member of the team services staff.

Members of the organization that have symptoms are being tested immediately and placed in isolation for a five-day period. Team doctors recently provided players and staff an MMR vaccination and the organizaton will continue to work closely with the NHL, NHLPA and the Minnesota Department of Health.

Mumps is a highly contagious disease caused by a virus. It typically starts with a fever, headache, body aches, fatigue and swollen salivary glands and commonly occurs in places where people have had prolonged, close contact with a person who has mumps, such as playing on the same sports team, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

In 2014, several Wild players were stricken, including defensemen Ryan Suter, Marco Scandella, Jonas Brodin, Christian Folin and Keith Ballard. Brodin missed three weeks, Suter missed a game, so effects vary.

At that time, Parise jokingly talked about the illness that seemed to only affect defensemen, saying, “What is this, the Oregon Trail? Every team seems to get the flu once a year, but the mumps?”

All Wild players, coaches and staff were offered vaccines back then and equipment trainers sanitized all equipment and provided players with individual water bottles. Parise and Pominville were among those who got shots, GM Chuck Fletcher said.

not out of realm of possibility for parise and pomminville to get it despite getting the shots, the vaccine isn't 100% effective

Quote:
MMR vaccine is very safe and effective. The mumps component of the MMR vaccine is about 88% (range: 66-95%) effective when a person gets two doses; one dose is about 78% (range: 49%−92%) effective.
