UPD: Friedman: Thinks a deal will get done between Gaudreau and the Flames in the next week
Thought it was significant enough for a new thread, as it was getting hard to find new information on the other thread.
Here's the latest update as of 9/27/2016
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/video/insider-...-trouba~960344
Notes:
Quote:
- Johnny Gaudreau does not have enough experience for teams to give an offer sheet.
- The Flames would like to have Johnny Gaudreau signed for what they gave Sean Monahan & Mark Giordano. ($6.3M-$6.7M)
- Per Eric Francis, Johnny Gaudreau wants $8M
- Pretty significant gap, but there is still plenty of time.
|
10/2/2016
Sean Monahan: "I talk to Johnny a little bit, and I'm sure something is going to get done here soon."

In my opinion, if the Flames doesn't give in a bit (say 7.2m-7.5m), the next contract will be even more difficult to negotiate, as Gaudreau and his agent will be looking to make up the lost money...

Damn. Really hate Gaudreaus agent right now. I can't blame the flames for standing pat. Why not just meet in the middle and call it a day ? 7.4ish. Fair for both In my eyes.

I will be shocked if Gaudreau lets himself miss a single game to start the season. He hates to be scratched or suspended when it's out of his control.

In my opinion, the Flames don't budge until Gaudreau's camp drops there ask below $8.0 m on a long term deal.

Where is all the time ? The season is right around the corner. Gaudreau doesn't know the new coach or system.

I wouldn't surprise me if it goes down to the eve of the start of the season before a contract is signed.

The season does not start yet for two full weeks, and Gaudreau has been playing hockey for the last three. I don't think there is much concern on either side about missed time in training camp.

Johnny doesn't need to know the new system, he creates his own system.

The hell does this mean? I'm pretty sure literally every team in the league wants Gaudreau playing for them. The question is whether they want to give up the picks.
Honestly, if I'm... any team in the league basically, I'd send him a 5x7.5 flat offer sheet. If the Flames match, whatever, nothing ventured nothing gained and Johnny's probably happy either way. If they don't match, he's well worth a 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
Florida, the Jets or Anaheim should be jumping on it, particularly.

I honestly don't see where the hate for Gaudreau's agent is coming from. Nobody except people close to the situation know what's actually happening. For all we know it's the Flames being unreasonable. Maybe Murray Edwards is incensed at Gaudreau's sideburns and won't sign him until he shaves them off? Who the hell knows? This is all just wild speculation, I'm not sure why anyone here is mad at either of the parties involved.

It means he literally hasn't played enough seasons to be eligible for an offer sheet.

Sun posts in the other thread the deal is done essentially. Mckenzie says they aren't talking. What is it?

He is ineligible for an offersheet, the writer just worded it oddly.

No. This means that Gaudreau is literally not even offer-sheet eligible. He CANNOT be signed by another team to an offer sheet. Where have you been? This has been discussed to death over the course of the past two months.
