The vet I'm most interested in seeing is Wideman. I wonder if we get Wideman of 2 seasons ago, or Wideman of 1 season ago.

I wonder if he's over the Henderson hit, or if the NHL's dragging it on has rattled him enough that he's a different and more apprehensive player.

A 50 point Wideman would sure make his $5MM+ salary an easier pill to swallow.

It was discussed that Monahan will play the last half of preseason games. Backlund is day-to-day.

Still out for precautionary reasons. They mentioned that Monahan is expected to get into 4 preseason games, So he will probably miss the first couple. My guess is the game against the canucks on Friday will be his first.

I have not heard anythign on Backlund yet.

I would prefer to win, but more than anything I would prefer TJ Brodie or anyone else does not get hurt.

Right on. Appreciate the update. Hopefully we have a fully healthy roster for opening night.

I don't mind this at all. Looking at that line up Jankowski should be pulling top six minutes. It's a great opportunity for him to prove he is regular season worthy. It's a good chance to prove his goods.

Granted I will be watching both games. I get its a bummer for those going to the Dome.

This happens every year in the split squad game ... predictions of blowouts by the home team which never quite materialize. A team of prospects and roster hopefuls tends to put together an all-or-nothing effort as its probably the only game they're going to get into, whereas the vets are just stretching out and getting comfortable.

I'd bet that both games are close tonight,

If it's a close game because our guys aren't even trying then I don't want to watch that either.

Few guys in Edmonton are playing for spots on the team.

There is going to be two Flames games tonight. There will be a couple scraps, a couple ugly goals, a few flashy plays, some classic us versus them, and the inevitable appearance of Oiler trolls. I could not be more excited. It's guaranteed entertainment.

What more could you want in September.... Only free beer and pizza could make this better.

I thought Ryian Lomberg was pretty noticeable at the young stars tournament. Wonder how much of a look he'll get

No wunderkind in either game? Afraid to play him against us?

Yeesh that doesn't look a whole lot better than the one they're sending down here.

Are they streaming this on YouTube or just the website? And I also hope there's no regional blackouts.

Not seeing Gaudreau in the lineup makes me sad. I know there is still time until the season starts, but god damn, it's getting real now.

Would all of y'all prefer player updates, system updates, or a bit of both from tonight's game in Calgary?
