Well at least someone is conducting negotiations during the World Cup.

Very solid. Granted, he'll be 36 by the time it's over, but the first half of the deal should be good value.

Pretty fair for both sides

Congrats to Marchand for working hard, turning from a pest to a solid all around player with more scoring upside than anyone thought - I would love him on the Flames

6M+ max term for a 28 year old guy with a career 0.63PPG seems awfully steep.

A good deal. The later years might be a bit much, but they are obviously committed to the player.

Perhaps the valuation of a player is more than just PPG and fancy stats?

37 goals this season, has been good for 25-30 in the previous seasons. Not bad cap-hit for 6M. He will technically be 37 by the time the contract is over though.

I understand the deal but it could be pretty ugly on the back half when he's in his 30's.

well Parallex didn't quote any fancy stats, but Marchand is a pretty fantastic fancy stats player.

37 goals drove his value up.

He's a reliable ~25 goal ~50 point guy. Kills penalties. Draws penalties. Is generally really annoying. That's a good 2nd liner, and 6.1m is second line money.

His fancy stats are actually pretty good (although I'd argue that's more due to Bergeron then Marchand). This contract is going to take him to age 37... much to much for much to long.

He's a good 2nd liner who is currently looking fantastic on TC's top line.

And $6.1M isn't really 2nd line money IMO.

Don't mind it as a Bruins fan- he's been a huge part of the team success, and his work at the World Cup playing with Crosby probably had a little to do with it as well.

It's not. 2nd line money these days is more in the 4M-5M range. He's getting 1st line money which I don't have a huge objection to in the short term. He's 28... he'll probably be able to maintain his level of play for two or three years but after that it's far more likely then not that he declines. So 75% of this hefty contract is going to be spent on a declining Brad Marchand... It'd be one thing if he were declining from a very high level but he won't be.

This is not a good contract (For the Bruins... it's an exceptional contract for Brad Marchand).

Better player than Lucic contrary to the size queen narrative. Worth it until he falls off which no one can predict as with every UFA deal.

There is a lot more to his game than his 0.63 PPG total. He is on TC's top line for a reason.

He is well worth $6.1M IMO, though 8 years is a long time. But that's the tradeoff. If the Bruins wanted shorter term, it would have meant a higher cap hit.

This contract is very similar to Giordano's in the sense that he is worth more than the cap hit now, but the cost is term where he will probably be worth less than the cap hit at some point.

Playing with Bergeron probably helps with that.
