saying they discussing an offer sheet is alot different than saying they are going to offer 7x7

Discussions could be as simple as "how high would we go on an offer sheet?", then a discussion on how to re-obtain their picks. Doesn't mean they considered for a second giving Trouba a 7x7 deal and forfeiting 4 first round picks.

The Treliving Curse strikes again.
Currently Kris is sitting down and having a beer with Curtis and Jiri at the Last Chance Saloon lamenting that they didnt take Brad's Final Offer.

no discussions could mean they talked to the agent about offer sheets his client was willing to sign (the rumor came out during the courting period). they may have even gotten to the point where the agent said they would sign a 7 x 7, but then the Bruins got cold feet.
Friedman even suggested that the Bruins might have explored doing a 1 year offer sheet and having a "wink wink nudge nudge" agreement to extend the contract later with the agent.

I thought that teams couldn't make an offer sheet with out having the picks first. So they would have to get there picks back first .

They have the picks necessary to make a 7x7 offer sheet. But this is getting off topic.

Yes I know that but that's the only one but I truler can't believe that Boston is that stupid to give up 4 first for trouba. He's a fantastic player who will only get better but
His not 4 first round picks good

My opinion on this matter is that it appears Flames management were right on this contract once again.
If you recall the Glencross situation the reports out there was a contract ask from Glencross's camp in the area of around $5 mil a year. Flames management felt that he wasn't in that area and decided to move on. We now know that the market for Glencross was small and he ask was too high. For various reasons I don't think Glencross was going play for a smaller deal so it made sense for him to retire.
As for Russell it now appears to be a somewhat similar situation scenario where the ask from the player vs the market demand from management appeared to be way off. In any event I really do hope he finds a spot with another team as he is a valuable D man but sometimes you need to question the offers being made.

My questions too.
Russell will almost certainly land somewhere at an inflated price...but he didn't exactly shine with the Stars this spring, so I can't see why he'd be holding out for some worldbeater playoff-bound team, when he's not proven himself "the answer."

From Alain Roy his agent. @alroy42
Reports of Kris Russell turning down any offer from the @MapleLeafs are false. Simply rumors...

Russell at $4MM is probably appropriate and can still happen. But the more time goes on, if I were him I'd start to get a little nervous.

Agent speak? Because they only talked general numbers and never got to formal offer probably?

Regarding the HERO chart, am I reading wrong when it says Petry is better by a country mile when it comes to shot suppression over Russell?
Do shot blocks not count as shot suppression?
And if they do, how is Russell not better as hes been the NHL leader in shot blocks for the last 2 years, by a country mile, himself?

Pretty sure shot suppression factors in shot attempts. Shots that are blocked are still shot attempts, so they count, and seeing as how Russell has been the league leader in shot blocks over the last two years, he's seen more shot attempts than a ton of players. That would sink his shot suppression stats.
