Garth Brooks is actually a bad example given he put out a rock album that sounds nothing like how he usually sings.

I agree, are we going to the games because we want to see the Flames play another team and watch NHL players compete or are we going to hear the National Anthem(s) and whoever sings them damn well better do a good job and meet my satisfaction or else it will ruin my entire experience and the whole game itself?

I have yet to see someone leave the Dome in disgust after the anthem, nor tell me their enjoyment of the game was lessened by the anthem.
By the end of the third period, most people don't even remember how the anthem was sung. They have enjoyed the game and the rest of the show that is a Calgary Flames game.

Like his singing or not, but George Canyon seems like a really terrific guy. IMO, he does a fine anthem, too.

I don't understand why we have to listen to the anthems before every game but if we do have to listen to them why not invite some class from a local school to do it.
Every home game have a new class from a school. The kids would love it and all kids know the national anthem and could learn the American one.

The whole thing is eerily similar to a fascist rally, especially with the 50-ft. flags they unfurl now. Would like to see the anthems done away with. Quebec Ontario and the Lower Mainland hate us anyways.

Honest truth? Because most people - kids included - are terrible singers. I'd be fine with doing away with the anthems altogether, but as long as they are there, I don't really want a game to begin with a bunch of kids making my ears bleed.

They do this at Windsor Spitfires games - it's awful. I would rather just have a single anthem singer over that.
